Configuring use of SQL Server dynamic ports
Discover does not natively support use of dynamic ports when accessing SQL Server. If possible, Discover recommends disabling use of dynamic ports.
About this task
When SQL Server starts, a dynamic port is selected. This port is used during operations. During restart, the configured port remains, unless a conflict emerges.
If the ports must remain dynamic, complete the following steps.
Procedure
- Start all Discover services.
- Start the database.
- Through SQL Server Management Studio, locate the port that SQL Server is using.
- This port must be populated for each database in the Connection dialog of the Discover Database Manager.
- In the Discover Database
Manager, you can set the ports for the databases.
- From the TDM menu, select .
- Populate the ports accordingly. When changes are applied, the registry keys below are updated for you.
- Through Discover Database Manager, install or upgrade the databases as necessary.
Results
On the Report Server, database port numbers are in the following registry keys. You can update these through the Discover Database Manager Connecting screen.
- Product (Database)
- Registry Key
- Unica Discover (Reports)
Discover Technology > DataStore > Report Server > Port
- Unica Discover (Visitors)
Discover Technology > DataStore > Report Server > Visitor Port
- Unica Discover (Search)
Discover Technology > DataStore > Database > Search > Database Port
Note: If SQL Server is forced to choose a new dynamic
port, then the new port must be used whenever you access the databases
through the Connecting screen in the Discover Database
Manager and repopulated in the appropriate registry key through the Discover Database Manager using
the above steps.
