Automatic recovery from controller failures

If your Z controller fails or the system that it is running on fails, HCL Workload Automation for Z can transfer the Z controller function to another z/OS system that is running HCL Workload Automation for Z. The systems involved must be part of a cross-system coupling facility (XCF) sysplex. Control can be passed automatically when HCL Workload Automation for Z detects a tracker or z/OS system failure or can be initiated manually using the MODIFY operator command.

The standby system to which control is passed must have all the data used by the original Z controller available to it. This usually requires the use of shared DASD between the two systems. The new Z controller system must also have access to all other systems in the HCL Workload Automation for Z complex through XCF, VTAM®, or TCP/IP connetions. You must ensure that these links are available.

Also, the RACF® environment of the new Z controller z/OS system must be set up correctly to ensure that the level of user access to data from the standby system is correct.
