Software requirements for HCL Workload Automation

To obtain the latest information about software requirements, see Supported Software Report.

Note: Starting from HCL Workload Automation version 10.2, complimentary licenses for WebSphere Application Server Liberty and Db2 are no longer provided. You can continue using these products, but it is necessary to obtain your own licenses for them. You can find the procedures related to these changes in the following topics:

Software requirements for WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty

HCL Workload Automation supports both WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty. The latest version of Open Liberty can be downloaded from Get start with Open Liberty.

If you already have WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base installed, you can use it with HCL Workload Automation, otherwise you can install Open Liberty, as described in Installing Open Liberty. WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base is no longer distributed from the HCL Software portal and needs to be obtained independently.

If you want to move from WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base to Open Liberty, see Moving from WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base to Open Liberty.

WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base adopts a continuous delivery model where new versions are deployed on a monthly basis. During the formal testing phase, HCL Workload Automation and the Dynamic Workload Console were tested using WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty V25.0.0.6.

The minimum required version of WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty to successfully install the product is V25.0.0.6.

The formal test phase of the Dynamic Workload Console installed in a z/OS environment was performed using WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty 25.0.0.3. The minimum required version of WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty for the Dynamic Workload Console installed in a z/OS environment is 25.0.0.3.

For more information about which subsequent versions of WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base can be used in the future, see Recommended updates for WebSphere Application Server.

Supported LDAP servers

For a list of LDAP servers supported by HCL Workload Automation, see WebSphere Application Server Liberty Base and Open Liberty documentation, for example Configuring LDAP user registries in Liberty and Federation of user registries.

Hardware requirements

For information about AIDA requirements, see Detailed System Requirements for AIDA.

Permanent disk space requirements when installing the product

To obtain the latest information about permanent disk space requirements when installing HCL Workload Automation on supported operating systems, see Hardware Requirements.
Note:
Space for RDBMS
The disk space requirements listed in the report do not include the space required for the RDBMS software you have chosen, details of which can be obtained from their support documentation.

Nor do they include the additional space requirement for the base support of HCL Workload Automation (without scheduling data), which is 2 GB.

Space requirements for operating HCL Workload Automation
The disk space requirements listed in the report does not include the space required to operate HCL Workload Automation. For this you must consider the additional space required for the following:
  • Database data
  • Symphony file
  • Archive files (and their retention period)
  • Log files (and their retention period)
  • Temporary files that are placed on the local hard drive
  • Files associated with the jobs managed by HCL Workload Automation

The space required is very subjective and depends on how you use HCL Workload Automation. If you are already a user of the product, you will have an idea of how much space it currently occupies. However, you should bear in mind that each version of the system uses more disk space than the previous one. If you are a new user you will probably set up a test system to help you grow familiar with the product and you should be able to scale up the operating space requirements of the test system to give you an indication of how much space you will be using in a fully functional live system.

Disk space at installation
Before starting the installation or upgrade, ensure you have the necessary disk space available on the file system. Consider that the disk space check calculated by the installation considers the entire space occupied by the TWA_HOME directory. The space required by the backup is the sum of the following directories:
TWA_HOME/TWS +
TWA_HOME/TDWB + TWA_HOME/wastools +
TWA_HOME/properties

Temporary space requirements

To obtain the latest information about temporary space requirements, see Hardware Requirements.

Virtual memory swap space requirements

HCL Workload Automation requires a minimum of 2 GB of virtual memory swap space on the file system of any operating system.

Memory requirements

To obtain the latest information about memory requirements, see Hardware Requirements.
