Installing the HCL VersionVault Explorer

HCL VersionVault Explorer technology provides access to HCL VersionVault from various network connections, including wide area network (WAN). This technology is available in the HCL VersionVault Explorer in various forms.

  • HCL VersionVault Explorer is a self-contained application that is not integrated with Eclipse and does not depend on any particular development environment. It includes:
    • Viewers that provide access to resources loaded into VersionVault views. They also allow you to browse the contents of remote VersionVault repositories. Examples of viewers are VersionVault Navigator and VersionVault Details view.
    • Dialog boxes that implement HCL VersionVault operations such as checkout and checkin
    • Wizards that automate tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating VersionVault views
    • Toolbars and menus that provide access to the dialog boxes and wizards

    HCL VersionVault Explorer is installed using the IBM Installation Manager.

  • HCL VersionVault Explorer for Eclipse, which integrates HCL VersionVault Explorer with Eclipse 4.6. In HCL VersionVault Explorer for Eclipse, all HCL VersionVault Explorer viewers are available in the VersionVault Windows Explorer perspective. Viewers can be added to other Eclipse perspectives as well. Dialog boxes and wizards are accessible from VersionVault toolbars (which can be added to any Eclipse perspective that supports a Team provider) and also from the Eclipse Team menu. Toolbars can be added to any Eclipse perspective that supports a Team provider.

  • HCL VersionVault Explorer Extension is a self-contained application that is integrated with HCL products. It includes:
    • Viewers that provide access to resources loaded into VersionVault views. They also allow you to browse the contents of remote VersionVault repositories. Examples of viewers are the VersionVault Navigator and VersionVault Details view.

  • HCL VersionVault Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, Microsoft Visual Studio 2019, and Microsoft Visual Studio 2022 provide access to HCL VersionVault using a wide area network (WAN). They are used to add support for HCL VersionVault in all views from within the Visual Studio shell.
    HCL VersionVault Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio offers a first-class integration with the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. The integration:
    • Provides menus and toolbars to complete HCL VersionVault operations such as checkout and checkin.
    • Automates tasks such as joining a UCM project and creating VersionVault views.
    • Enables developers to:
      • Manage their VS.NET solution and project artifacts in HCL VersionVault views.
      • Perform advanced HCL VersionVault search operations with tool windows such as Front Desk, VersionVault Search, and Pending Solution Checkins.
    Notes:
    • Visual Studio 2017 and Visual Studio 2019 always use the HCL VersionVault Explorer based user interface. Any references in the help to the integration of HCL VersionVault Explorer and VS.NET through any other HCL VersionVault clients or GUIs are not supported.
    • Visual Studio 2022 uses both HCL VersionVault Explorer based user interface and VersionVault client GUIs. It supports both WAN and LAN services.

    Use Installation Manager to install HCL VersionVault Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2017, HCL VersionVault Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2019, and HCL VersionVault Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2022.
