SafeLinx Clients
SafeLinx Clients can establish virtual private network (VPN) connections with mobile access services across various wireless and wireline network. SafeLinx Clients use these optimized, secure IP tunnels to communicate with resources on the internal network.
Linux
Install, configure, and use the SafeLinx Client component of Windows HCL SafeLinx on Linux x86_64 systems.
Using the SafeLinx Client on Linux
You can use the SafeLinx Client to create connections, change passwords, export and import files, roam between networks, manage connection properties, and more.
Using trace
Trace can be set up from the Connections window. This action allows set up of a trace either before starting a connection to the SafeLinx Server or after the connection is already active.

SafeLinx Clients

    To get started with the SafeLinx Client, review the software and hardware requirements, and then read the instructions on how to install the client, apply maintenance, and start the client.

      You can use the Create Connection wizard to define new connections for the SafeLinx Client.

      You can easily change the password that you use to connect to the SafeLinx Server.
    - Checking that applications are running before connecting
      You can configure the SafeLinx Client to check that specific programs are running, such as antivirus or personal firewall software, before allowing the connection to start.
    - Starting a connection when the operating system starts
      Specific connections can be configured to start automatically when the operating system starts. Log in as root and use the properties notebook to configure the service.
    - Automatically starting applications after connecting
      The SafeLinx Client can be configured to start applications automatically after a connection is established. The number of applications which you can autostart is restricted to 16. In addition to specifying the application name, you can also configure any parameters with which you want the application started.
    - Importing and exporting configuration files
      You can export the configuration file that controls how a SafeLinx Client connects to the network and then import the file to other clients to reuse those settings.
    - Using trace
      Trace can be set up from the Connections window. This action allows set up of a trace either before starting a connection to the SafeLinx Server or after the connection is already active.
      - Viewing and saving trace data
        Trace data can be saved and viewed by using the Connections window. You can save the trace data to a specified location.
      - Configuring trace properties
        You can set up a trace to record diagnostic information for the SafeLinx Client. Your SafeLinx Server administrator might request a trace file from you to help diagnose a problem.
    - Roaming between networks
      In IP-based networks, the SafeLinx Client can dynamically switch the secure connection to the SafeLinx Server from one physical network adapter to another. The switch to the secure connection is completed with little or no user intervention and usually with no interruption to applications.
    - Viewing connection status
      Various components that relate to the connection status which include status, statistics, roaming, logon status, and advanced settings are all available to be viewed within the Status window.
    - Manually suspending and resuming communications
      Communications to and from the SafeLinx Client can be manually suspended or resumed.
    - Viewing connection properties
      You can view connection properties such as attributes, security, networks, and autostart to understand and customize your connection.
    - Deleting a connection
      Deleting an existing connection can be completed in just a few steps.
    - Disconnecting from the SafeLinx Server
      You can disconnect from an active connection with the Connection Manager.
    - Changing font size and style
      If the default settings are not adequate, you can change the font size and font family. When you change the fonts for the SafeLinx Client, it also affects any application on your system that uses the Qt application framework.
  - Configuring clients with configuration files
    There are several configuration files that provide the parameters used by the SafeLinx Client program to establish a connection with the SafeLinx Server.
- OS X
  Install, configure, and use the SafeLinx Client component of HCL SafeLinx for use on Mac OS X systems.
- Windows
  Install, configure, and use the SafeLinx Client component of HCL SafeLinx on Microsoft Windows systems.

Using trace

Trace can be set up from the Connections window. This action allows set up of a trace either before starting a connection to the SafeLinx Server or after the connection is already active.

Procedure

The location of the trace file is /var/log/wc.log. To set up a trace:

In the Connections window, click the Tools menu and select Configure Trace.
Enter the properties in the Trace tabs.
Click OK to close the trace window and begin tracing, or click Apply to begin tracing without closing the trace window.
