Installing the SafeLinx Server on Windows

On Windows, the installation program installs both the SafeLinx Server and the SafeLinx Administrator administration tool at the same time.

Before you begin

After the installation completes, you must configure the SafeLinx Server to use a database for its persistent storage. If you intend to use SQL Server to store SafeLinx Server data, you must run the installation as a domain administrator or another user that is known to SQL Server. The installation must also have SQL Server administrative privileges.

About this task

When you run the installation program, before it installs the SafeLinx Server software, it adds components for the following software:
  • Microsoft .NET Framework
  • Microsoft SQL Server components
  • Virtual adapter to support SafeLinx Client virtual private network (VPN) access
  • SQL Server System CLR

After the software installs, use the First steps portal to complete the initial configuration.

Procedure

  1. Download the 64-bit Windows version of the SafeLinx Server installation image from the My HCLSoftware Portal.
After the download completes, the file HCL-SafeLinx-111-X64.exe is saved to the download directory.
  2. Log in with the Administrator ID on the computer where you want to install the SafeLinx Server.
  3. Double-click the installation program to start the wizard and then specify the language to use for the installation.
  4. When you are prompted, specify whether you want to install the virtual adapter. The virtual adapter is used to support virtual private network (VPN) connections for SafeLinx Clients only. It is not required for deployments that support HTTP access services only. However, to avoid later complications if you want to add support for SafeLinx Clients, it is best to install the adapter now.
Installation of prerequisite software can take several minutes.

After the Installation wizard completes, the First steps portal opens to guide you through the initial configuration.

What to do next

If you will run the SafeLinx Administrator from a remote host, also complete the procedure Installing the SafeLinx Administrator on Windows to install it on the host. Otherwise, continue to Completing the initial SQL Server database configuration on Windows.
