Steps to deploy a new version of Notes
The following steps are typical ones to use to deploy a new version of Notes in your environment.

      - Plan the deployment
        It is important to plan for the deployment of the new version of Notes.

      You can push an upgrade to Notes® clients using Notes Smart Upgrade and/or other third party mechanisms, such as Smart Upgrade Run-As wizard (SURUNAS) or Upgrade-by-mail. You can also upgrade Notes clients using the Notes installation executable either silently (command line) or using the installer's graphical user interface. The supplied installation executable is used for an initial install or an upgrade install.

Build and test the deployment package

Follow these guidelines to build and test the deployment package.

Use a "push" tool to automate the deployment.
Consider uninstalling earlier clients for a reportedly smoother experience and the added benefit of being able to change the location of install directories.
Code scripting to shut down the client if not already shut down and also reboot the machine before starting the install.
Use verbose install logging for the pilot.
Run maintenance on local databases and defragment the machine.
