Test Author Guide
This guide describes how to create and edit test assets in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), and then publish test assets to the remote Git repository that you have configured in your project. This guide is intended for testers and test managers.
Data management

In HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you can manage test data by using the Data tab, which provides a centralized workspace for handling various types of data. Whether you work with fabricated data, retrieve information from databases, or define structured schemas, this interface supports both creating new data and reusing existing assets across your testing requirements.

Test Author Guide
This guide describes how to create and edit test assets in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), and then publish test assets to the remote Git repository that you have configured in your project. This guide is intended for testers and test managers.
- Edit branch overview
  When you want to create or modify a test resource in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you must use an Edit branch. An Edit branch is a temporary branch created from the selected branch in the repository configured within the project, where you can save the created or edited resource.
- Test Editor overview
  You can use the Test Editor tab to create and manage test assets such as applications, Web UI tests, and test suites in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub).
- Application management
  When you want to create and manage Web UI tests in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you must first create an application within the project.
- Web UI test management
  You can test your web applications by recording Web UI tests in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub). Test Hub supports industry-standard browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox to record and play back Web UI tests. After the playback, you can evaluate the test results.
- Test suite management
  A suite is a collection of the tests and other suites. You can combine the multiple tests and suites into a single workflow and organize them into a suite.
- Test variables
  A test variable is a user-defined, name-value pair that stores and refers to information throughout a test. You can assign the value of a variable to a test element or assign the value of a UI object property to a test variable.
- Catalog management
  You can use the data catalog in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub) to browse and manage data generators used in test data creation. The catalog section provides access to built-in generators, allows you to create custom generators tailored to specific needs, and group them using custom categories.
- Data management

      You can create datasets in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub) to replace the values of existing dataset with the values of new dataset during a test or schedule run.

      When you use variable data that is contained in a CSV file, you can import the data from the CSV file and create a dataset in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub).

      When you created a Data definition in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub) to fabricate test data, you can create a dataset by using the Data definition.
    - Creating a dataset by using a database query
      When you use variable data that is contained in a database, you can create a database query to import the required data from a database and use the data that is present in the database query to create a dataset in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub).
    - Editing a dataset
      You can add, modify, remove, import, or export data from a dataset.
    - Dataset encryption
      Encrypted datasets are useful when you want to run tests that contain confidential information such as a set of passwords or account numbers.
    - Viewing a dataset
      When test assets includes datasets, you can view the contents of a dataset from HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub). The datasets residing in the Git repository are listed in the Datasets page.
    - Deleting a dataset
      You can delete the dataset when it is not required in your test environment.
    - Viewing an encrypted dataset

      To move the encrypted dataset from one classification to another dataset in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you can change the classification for an encrypted dataset.
    - Managing an encrypted dataset
      You can use encrypted datasets to limit access to confidential information such as account number or passwords. You can arrange data by an appropriate category so that project members can use datasets more effectively in certain tests and protect them.
  - Management of data definition
    You can find information about creating, editing, and managing data definitions in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), to support realistic and reusable test data generation.
  - Management of schemas
    A schema, also known as a database schema, defines how data is structured, organized, and managed in a database management system (DBMS). It outlines the format, storage, processing, security, and data access across various structural schema elements such as tables, views, and logical constraints.
  - Publishing changes in data definitions, datasets, or schemas
    After creating or modifying a data definition, dataset, or schema in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you can publish changes from an Edit branch to the source branch in the project repository. After you publish the changes, other members of the project can view and work with the updated datasets.
  - Generating fabricated test data
    You can generate fabricated test data in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub) to support a wide range of test scenarios. The generated data is saved as a CSV file on your system and can be used to override existing datasets during test execution.
- Publishing all changes in an Edit branch
  After you create or modify any data or test assets in an Edit branch of a project in HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub), you can publish all the changes that are in an Edit branch to the source branch in the project repository. After publishing, other members in the project can view and use the resources.

Viewing a dataset

When test assets includes datasets, you can view the contents of a dataset from HCL DevOps Test Hub (Test Hub). The datasets residing in the Git repository are listed in the Datasets page.

Before you begin

You must have completed the following tasks:

Ensured that you are assigned a role as a Viewer, Tester, or Project Owner in the project.
Created or joined a project in your team space in Test Hub. See Creating a project.
Added the remote Git repository that contains the test resources to the project. See Adding repositories to a server project.
Created at least one dataset and encrypted the dataset with an encryption key. See Creating a dataset and Encrypting a dataset column.
Created a classification for an encrypted dataset. See Managing an encrypted dataset.

Procedure

Log in to Test Hub.

The Projects page of the initial team space is displayed.
Click My projects > project_name to open the project that contains the test assets.

The Overview page of the project is displayed.
Click Author > Data.

The Data page and the data navigator panel are displayed.
Select the branch that contains your project with the datasets that you want to edit.

The projects in the selected branch are displayed in the Data navigator panel. The datasets are listed under the folder you created to contain the dataset within a logical folder named Datasets.
Click the dataset in the data navigator.

The dataset opens in the right pane.

Results

You have viewed the contents of the dataset.
