Data navigator panel

The home page of Data features a navigation panel called the data navigator panel, which serves as a central hub for managing and organizing data definitions, datasets, database queries, and schemas across multiple folders within your project.

Each folder in the panel acts as a container for project assets such as applications, datasets, data definitions, database query or schemas. You can select a dataset, data definition, database query, or schema to open it in the Data page, where you can view and manage its contents.

You can perform the following actions from the data navigator panel:

Actions Descriptions
Search You can search for a data definition or a dataset in a branch by entering the name of the data definition or dataset in the Search field.

View

You can view the contents of a data definition or a dataset for a selected folder in a project. See Viewing a data definition and its details and Viewing a dataset.

New

You can create a dataset, data definition, database query, or a schema in a project. See Creating an empty data definition and Creating a dataset.

Edit

You can modify a dataset, data definition, database query, or a schema in a project. See Modifying a data definition and Editing a dataset.

Rename You can change the name of a Dataset, Data definition, Database Query, or Schema within a project.
Save As You can create a copy of an existing dataset, data definition, database query, or a schema with a new name in a project. You can select the Save As option, which appears when you right-click the data asset.

Delete

You can delete a dataset, data definition, database query, or a schema in a project. See Deleting a data definition and Deleting a dataset.

Move You can move a dataset, data definition, database query, or a schema from one applicationr to another within the same project. You can select the Move option, which appears when you right-click the test asset.
Compare You can view and compare changes made in the edit branch with unpublished changes in the Web UI test or suite. You can select the Compare option, which appears when you right-click the test asset.
Collapse All You can minimize all expanded datasets in the project view to simplify navigation and focus on top-level items.
Expand All You can expand all sections or folders in the project view to quickly view the all the datasets.
You can use the following options to enhance your data navigation experience while managing and organizing data definitions and datasets across multiple folders of your project.
Icon Description

You can use the Virtual Folder icon to view folders at different levels. The available options are:

  • Root Folders: Displays virtual folders at the top, followed by the repository's folder structure.
  • Embedded Folders: Shows the repository's folder structure first, with files organized into virtual folders.
  • None: Excludes virtual folders entirely, and presents only the repository's orignal folder structure.
You can use the Link with editor icon to connect editor tabs to their corresponding locations in the navigator. By using this icon, you can easily navigate and quickly access specific sections within your project.

You can apply a filter to view folders by their asset type. You can select one or more of the following asset types and apply the filter:
  • Data Definitions
  • Database Queries
  • Datasets
  • Schemas
You can use the Save All icon to save all changes made to multiple assets or folders within your project.
Notes:
  • Only a Project Owner or a project member whose role is a Tester can edit a data definition or a dataset.

  • To view the contents of an encrypted dataset, you must provide an encryption key that you set when you encrypted the dataset column.

  • As a Viewer, when you try to modify a data definition or dataset, an error message is displayed because you do not have the permission to modify them.

To conclude, the data navigator panel provides easy access to projects, applications, datasets, data definitions, database query and schema in multiple branches.
