Swimlanes

Users can use Swimlanes to visualize and analyze work items across multiple dimensions, enhancing the ability to track progress, identify blocks, and make informed decisions. By organizing data into distinct lanes, users can gain insights into various aspects of their projects, such as ownership, priority, type, sprints, and releases.

Note: You must enable the insights by using Configuration > Insights to get the details synchronized in the Swimlanes dashboard.

When the Enable checkbox is selected, search, analytics, alerts, and email notifications are enabled. When cleared, these features are disabled. Alerts and emails will not be sent, and search, analytics, and swimlanes will return only previously indexed records.

In the Swimlanes dashboard, the first project in the Projects list is selected by default, which may not display the expected swimlanes. To view the relevant swimlanes, you should select the specific project manually.

The three-dimensional inputs for swimlanes:
  • Root categories
  • View options
  • Aggregations

Root categories encompass owner, priority, type, sprints, and releases, allowing users to identify who is responsible for each work item, determine the urgency or importance of tasks, classify work items by their nature, track work items across different sprint cycles, and monitor progress in relation to software releases.

View options include priority, severity, type, and story points, enabling users to visualize work items based on their priority levels, analyze the impact or severity of issues, filter work items by their type for focused analysis, and assess the effort required for each work item.

Aggregations involve grouping work items by their current status, sprint cycles, and releases, which helps in evaluating performance and tracking overall progress.
