Installing and preparing WebSphere Application Server
Install and prepare a 64-bit WebSphere Application Server installation for use with WebSphere Commerce Developer. You must have WebSphere Application Server installed before you can
install WebSphere Commerce Developer. WebSphere Commerce requires WebSphere Application Server Version 8.5.5.7 (Version 8.5.5, Fix Pack 7) or greater.
Before you begin
- Install Rational Application Developer or Rational Software Architect Version 9.5.
- If you do not have the WebSphere Application Server software, then download the eAssembly.
- Go to the HCL License and Delivery portal and find the appropriate file under the WebSphere Commerce Version 8 download package that you are entitled to.
- Download and extract the files.
- Prepare the product for installation:
- Start Installation Manager.
- In the top menu, click File > Preferences.
- Select Repositories.
- Click Add repository...
- Click Browse and find the diskTag.inf in the package that you extracted. For example, go to C:\RAD_WS_V9.5_WAS_8.5.5.7_TE\was855\disk1\diskTag.inf and then click OK.
- Select the Search service repositories during
installation and updates option. This option
finds newer maintenance packages that you can choose to install
at the same time.Tip: When you are selecting which packages to install in the IBM Installation Manager, click Check for other Versions, Fixes, and Extensions to find the latest fix pack. You can then install WebSphere Application Server and the latest fix pack together in one process.
- If you do not have the Java SDK Version 7.0 software, then download the eAssembly. Go to the HCL License and Delivery portal to obtain it. Download and extract the files.
Procedure
-
Install WebSphere Application Server Version 8.5.5 by using the IBM Installation Manager.
- For WebSphere Application Server installation instructions, see Installing the product on distributed operating systems using the GUI.
- If you are using IBM Installation Manager, during the installation,
a Shared Resources Directory is also created,
unless you already have a shared directory from a previous installation.
If you are prompted to specify a shared directory, enter a short
directory name, such as
C:\IBM\IMShared
, or use the default shared directory that is specified by the IBM Installation Manager. The installation operation creates an Installation Directory. Do not accept the default installation path. Specify a short directory name. The default installation path is too long for configuration with the WebSphere Commerce toolkit.
Attention: Do not use a directory that contains periods ("."), spaces, or dollar signs ("$") in the directory names. - During the installation, do not select Create a profile on the Configuration panel.
Restriction:- The WebSphere Commerce Developer base installer has a hard dependency
on Java 7.0. Therefore, the base installation of WebSphere Commerce Developer can only be installed with WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.21 and lower.
Once installed, you can upgrade to a later version of WebSphere Application Server and apply the corresponding WebSphere Commerce Developer fix pack.
- Beginning with WebSphere Application Server 8.5.5.22, you must uninstall Java 7. For more information, see the WebSphere Application Server V8.5.5.22 release notes in the WebSphere Application Server documentation.
Tip: If you are installing by using IBM Installation Manager, after you click Install, click Check for other Versions, Fixes, and Extensions to find the latest fix pack. You can then install WebSphere Application Server and the latest fix pack together in one process.
If you did not install the latest fix pack during the initial installation of WebSphere Application Server, then complete the following step to install Fix Pack 7 or
later.
-
If you are installing the base WebSphere Application Server Version 8.5.5, then
you need to update to WebSphere Application Server Fix Pack 7 or
later.
Note:
- For information about the latest WebSphere Application Server fix packs, see Fix list for IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5.

7.0 SR4 or any later Version
7.0 Service Refresh.
