Introduction
BigFix UI is a unified interface that consolidates multiple BigFix capabilities into one modern application. It provides IT operations and security teams with a centralized workspace to manage endpoints, remediate vulnerabilities, and generate reports.
Instead of switching across multiple consoles, you can navigate all essential BigFix features from a single, streamlined UI. When you sign in, the customizable Welcome to HCL BigFix home dashboard shows widget cards for the applications and reports that you use most, and the notifications bell in the header alerts you to events raised by your work across the application.
BigFix UI organizes capabilities into four main areas: Explore, Resolve, Reporting, and Administration. This structure helps you move easily between day-to-day endpoint operations, vulnerability management, reporting, and user access tasks.
Explore
Explore gives you a central view of your core BigFix resources. For more information, see Explore.
- Devices – View, filter, and manage endpoints. Configure properties such as maintenance windows and initiate actions. From the Device Details page, you can also open a remote control session or send a message to a device. You can also group devices into static or dynamic device groups.
- Fixlets – Browse and deploy Fixlets such as operating system patches, application updates, or configuration changes. You can also create, edit, and delete your own custom Fixlets.
- Deployments – Track the status of active, stopped, or completed deployments, assign tags to deployments, and review the details of each deployment.
- Software – Deploy and manage software across all endpoints in your network, with full control, audit visibility, and end-user self-service.
- Sites – Review the public and custom sites in your deployment, check how many devices subscribe to each site, and create custom sites to host your own content.
- Surveys – Create and track surveys that collect feedback from endpoint users about their digital experience, review the status and score of each survey, and deploy a survey to devices.
- Analyses – Collect and review device data. Create analyses, set the devices they apply to, and manage the properties that each analysis reports.
Resolve
Resolve provides the tools to act on identified issues and apply remediation across your environment. For more information, see Resolve.
- Custom Remediation – Create and run ad hoc remediation actions tailored to your environment, such as deploying a script, installing software, or updating the Windows registry.
- CyberFOCUS – Assess exposure using the CISA KEV and MITRE APT reports, and start a remediation flow from the findings.
- DEX – Monitor Digital Employee Experience (DEX) scores and historical trends across your environment.
- Fixlet Streams – Automate recurring patching by creating streams that deploy Fixlets on a defined schedule, and run ad hoc remediation for urgent issues.
- Integrated Vulnerability Remediation – Correlate vulnerability findings from your Tenable Vulnerability Management scanner with BigFix Fixlets and devices, and deploy the remediations from one place.
- Patch Dashboard – Get a consolidated, risk-prioritized view of missing patches and vulnerable devices, with drill-down navigation into Fixlets, devices, and deployments.
- Security Compliance – Review checklist compliance across your environment and deploy remediation for the checks that fail.
- License Reclamation – Find software that is installed but not used, see the savings that you gain when you uninstall it, and reclaim licenses.
- Protection Level Agreement (PLA) – Measure patch levels and compliance standards for a set of Fixlets against the service levels that your organization agrees to.
- Workflow Builder – Automate multi-step device tasks in a drag-and-drop visual editor, then deploy and monitor the workflows you build.
Reporting
Reporting helps you generate insights from BigFix data and share them with your team. For more information, see Reporting.
- All Reports – Access existing reports, mark favorites, and manage import/export options. You can also assign tags to reports and generate reports offline.
- Scheduled Reports – Run a saved report automatically, email the result, and keep an archive of each run.
- Report Builder – Build custom reports from device, Fixlet, deployment, and user data sets, with filters and chart widgets. You can also start from a guided template.
- Scripted Reports – Create advanced reports using HTML, Relevance expressions, JavaScript, and CSS.
Administration
Administration is visible only to administrators. For more information, see Administration.
- Application Configuration – Configure the applications available in BigFix UI, including global DEX settings and IVR settings.
- Identity management – Manage users, roles, permissions, account policies, and OIDC single sign-on.
- System configuration – Manage SMTP server profiles that BigFix UI uses to send email, such as scheduled report deliveries.
Workspace features
Across all areas, BigFix UI provides a consistent set of workspace features:
- The Notification Center, opened from the bell icon in the header, where you can filter, search, and archive notifications from every module.
- The Account panel, where you manage your profile and password, review your account activity, and set your language and theme preferences.
- Browser-based navigation, so the browser back and forward buttons, browser tabs, and shareable page links work as you expect.
Benefits of using BigFix UI
- Single Pane of Glass – Access all BigFix capabilities in one place.
- Efficiency – Reduce effort by consolidating patching, reporting, and remediation.
- Consistency – Apply uniform policies across your environment.

About this guide
This guide is for operators and administrators who use BigFix UI day to day. It explains how to navigate the interface, explore devices and Fixlets, deploy content, build reports, and manage users and roles. The chapters follow the structure of the product:
- Getting Started with BigFix UI – Sign in, understand access and security, navigate the interface, and use the common functions that appear across the application, such as filters, tags, and notifications.
- Using BigFix UI – Work with the Home dashboard and the Explore, Resolve, Reporting, and Administration areas.
This chapter also includes Known limitations, which lists the architectural and operational limits that affect how you plan device exploration and remediation. Review these limitations before you deploy content from BigFix UI.
This guide does not cover installing, configuring, or upgrading BigFix UI. For server installation, application configuration settings, and other deployment tasks, see the BigFix UI Administration Guide.
