OS update
BigFix Mobile and MCM supports operating system update management across Android, ChromeOS, and Apple devices (iOS, iPadOS, and macOS) through the creation and deployment of an OS Update Policy and action.
By creating an OS Update Policy and deploying it to devices or device groups, administrators can remotely manage software patches, as well as minor and major OS version upgrades. The policy allows configuration of update timing, version control, enforcement rules, and reboot behavior.
This centralized approach ensures devices remain secure, compliant, and aligned with organizational standards while maintaining optimal operating system performance and stability.
ChromeOS
The ChromeOS OS Update Policy allows administrators to control release channels, version rollouts, blackout windows, and minimum version enforcement. It supports staged deployments and compliance enforcement to ensure devices remain secure and standardized.
MacOS
MDM administrators can manage software updates remotely on supervised macOS devices through MDM action and/or a policy. The macOS OS Update Policy enables management of minor and major OS upgrades, deferral settings, and restart behavior. Administrators can schedule updates and enforce version compliance to maintain security and operational consistency. For the steps to perform this action, see OS Update. For the steps to configure a policy, see OS Update Policy.
iOS
The iOS OS Update Policy allows administrators to manage update scheduling, deferrals, and supervised device enforcement. It helps ensure devices receive critical patches while aligning with organizational rollout strategies.
iPadOS
The iPadOS OS Update Policy provides control over update timing, version management, and compliance enforcement similar to iOS. Administrators can remotely schedule and enforce updates to maintain device security and stability.
