Auto-updates

The auto-update feature ensures your installation remains current by automatically applying the latest updates.

About this task

The latest versions of AppScan include new features, enhancements, and updated security rules, along with bug fixes. It's important for a security product like AppScan to be updated to the newest version as soon as it becomes available. To simplify the update process, you can set up the auto-update feature, which automatically installs these updates for you.

AppScan continuously checks for updates on the HCL website and notifies you when new updates are available. You may also initiate an update on demand.

After AppScan finds new updates, you can download and install them on your computer.

Procedure

  1. Click Help > Check for updates.
The Auto-update configuration dialog is displayed if you haven't set up auto-updates before. Otherwise the Checking for updates dialog is displayed (skip to step 3).
Note: The Auto-update configuration dialog is also displayed after setting up or updating the license, if the auto-update key is not set up.
  2. Auto-update configuration:
    1. Log into the My HCLSoftware (MHS) using the email address that appears in your invitation. If this is your first login, you must create your HCLSoftware ID by using the Register for HCLSoftware ID link on the Sign In page.
    2. On the navigation bar click Account Management > Auto Update Keys.
    3. Click on Create auto-update key, type in a unique label, and then click Create.
      Note:
      • The Auto-update key is used by your entire organization. This means that all AppScan Standard users in your organization can use the same key.
      • If the key is already created, you can replace or revoke the auto-update key as needed. If revoked, the auto-update key is deleted, and if replaced, the older key becomes invalid.
    4. Click the copy icon to copy your auto-update key to your clipboard.
    5. In AppScan Standard, enter the copied Auto-update key in My HCLSoftware Auto-update key in the Auto-update configuration dialog, and then click Save. If the configuration is successful, a confirmation message is displayed.
    6. Click Check for updates to continue the search for the latest updates.
  3. AppScan checks for updates. If your version of AppScan® is up to date, a message will let you know, and you can close this dialog. If there is an update available, it will show the version and details.
  4. To apply the update, click Update.
The latest version of AppScan Standard is now installed on your computer.
