Print Screen Collection

Main facts
Print Screen Collection is available only in a 3270 Display session. It is available both to users running Java 1 browsers and to users running Java 2-enabled browsers.
Print Screen Collection is similar to Print Screen in that Print Screen Collection captures and prints a screen image. However, instead of printing a captured screen image immediately, as Print Screen does, Print Screen Collection stores the captured screen image into a list of screen images.
Until the user takes some action, Z and I Emulator for Web retains this list of screen images unchanged. At any time during the 3270 Display session the user can:
- Add another screen image to the end of the list.
- Discard all the images in the list.
- Print and discard all the images in the list.
The user can also tell Z and I Emulator for Web that when the user exits from the session, Z and I Emulator for Web should automatically print any screen images remaining in the list.
When the user exits from the session, Z and I Emulator for Web automatically prints any screen images remaining in the list, if the user has requested it. Then Z and I Emulator for Web discards all the screen images in the list. Screen images cannot be saved from one session to the next.
If the user is running a Java 2-enabled browser, then the user can select individual screen images to print or delete (see Process Print Screen Collection).
Print modes
The user can print screen images from the list either in non-Java print mode or in Java print mode (see Non-Java print mode and Java print mode). The default mode is Java print mode.
When more than one screen image is printed at the same time (for example, when Z and I Emulator for Web automatically prints all the screen images in the list after the user exits from the session):
- In non-Java print mode, Z and I Emulator for Web treats the screen images as sequential blocks of text belonging to a single formatted text document. For example, if Z and I Emulator for Web prints the last line of text from the first screen image on line 24 of page 1, then Z and I Emulator for Web starts printing the first line of text from the second screen image on line 25 of page 1.
- In Java print mode, Z and I Emulator for Web prints one screen image per page.
Maximum number of screen images
The maximum number of screen images that you can place in the list of screen images depends on the size of the images and the amount of memory available in the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). During testing, several hundred screen images were added to a collection, but you may not experience similar results.
If the JVM displays an error message saying that its memory is exhausted, you should click File > Print Screen Collection > Delete Collection to delete the collection and return the memory to the JVM.
