New functions in Z and I Emulator for Web

The following functions and enhancements have been added to Z and I Emulator for Web Version 16:

Server JRE Update Z and I Emulator for Web

Server JRE has been updated to IBM Semeru Runtime Open Edition (JRE) version 11.0.27.0.

ZIE for Web Client as Default Client

With this release, the ZIE for Web Client can now be deployed on an application server using InstallAnywhere during the Z and I Emulator for Web installation process.

Access links for launching the ZIE for Web Client have also been added to the dashboard.html page, making it accessible alongside other available clients.

LDAP Support

In this release of Z and I Emulator for Web, LDAP support has been expanded beyond IBM Tivoli Directory Server (TDS) to include additional open-source implementations such as ApacheDS, OpenLDAP, and Microsoft Active Directory (AD).

LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is used to store and retrieve directory information and authenticate users. With this enhancement, Z and I Emulator for Web now supports a broader range of directory services for improved flexibility and integration.

Z and I Emulator for Web Lite Client Launcher for Mac OS

Z and I Emulator for Web Lite Client Launcher is a custom protocol-based solution that launches the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web application using the locally installed installer on the user's machine.

Secure Configuration Server

In this release, support for a Secure Configuration Server has been introduced. Now, the server can handle both secure (TLS-enabled) and non-secure connections by listening on port 9001 for secure traffic and 8999 for non-secure traffic.

Wide Screen Optimization for BIDI and DBCS

In this release, Wide Screen Optimization has been introduced for BIDI (Bidirectional) and DBCS (Double-Byte Character Set) languages. This enhancement enables fonts to automatically scale and utilize the full presentation area when the screen is resized, eliminating unnecessary blank spaces and improving the visual layout.

Support for FIPS 140-3

This release, improving the security by transitioning from FIPS 140-2 to the newer FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standard for IBM Java runtime, as support for FIPS 140-2 will be deprecated in future updates.

Z and I Emulator for Web Installer Enhancements

From this release onwards, web applications such as the ZIE for Web Client and License Manager can be deployed on application servers through InstallAnywhere during the Z and I Emulator for Web installation process.

Both the Host Access Toolkit and Z and I Emulator for Web installers supports Modify Installation feature. With the Host AccessToolkit, you can add or remove language packs. The Z and I Emulator for Web provides more options, including the ability to add or remove language packs, reconfigure the web server, or completely uninstall the product.

HCL License Manager Enhancement

From this release onwards, HCL License Manager has been extended to support the H2 embedded database along with other databases. H2 will now be the default database.

Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Support for Z and I Emulator for Web

From this release onwards, the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web supports IPv6 protocols on both the client and server sides.

EHLAPPI Support with Toolkit

The EHLLAPI Library for Z and I Emulator for Web, also known as the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web EHLLAPI Bridge, allows EHLLAPI applications to connect to Z and I Emulator for Web terminal emulator sessions. Previously, this functionality was not available for applications developed using the HCL Host Access Toolkit.

From this release onwards, support for the EHLLAPI Bridge has been extended to include the HCL Host Access Toolkit. As a result, EHLLAPI applications that interact with HCL Z and I Emulator for Web emulator session scan now also interact with applications developed using the Host Access Class Library API and Host Access Beans for Java™ API via the EHLLAPI Bridge.

Upgrade of Packaged JRE in HCL ZIE Desktop Client

The version of Java runtime packaged in HCL ZIE Desktop Client has been upgraded to Java 17.0.15.0.
