Refer the Z and I Emulator for Web Documentation for other considerations when using Z and I Emulator for Web Version 16.0, and for complete product documentation.

What's New in Z and I Emulator for Web Version 16.0
ZIE for Web Client as Default Client
With this release, the ZIE for Web Client can now be deployed on an application server using InstallAnywhere during the Z and I Emulator for Web installation process.
Access links for launching the ZIE for Web Client have also been added to the dashboard.html page, making it accessible alongside other available clients.
LDAP Support
In this release of Z and I Emulator for Web, LDAP support has been expanded beyond IBM Tivoli Directory Server (TDS) to include additional open-source implementations such as ApacheDS, OpenLDAP, and Microsoft Active Directory (AD).
LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is used to store and retrieve directory information and authenticate users. With this enhancement, Z and I Emulator for Web now supports a broader range of directory services for improved flexibility and integration.
Z and I Emulator for Web Lite Client Launcher for Mac OS
Z and I Emulator for Web Lite Client Launcher is a custom protocol-based solution that launches the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web application using the locally installed installer on the user's machine.
Secure Configuration Server
In this release, support for a Secure Configuration Server has been introduced. Now, the server can handle both secure (TLS-enabled) and non-secure connections by listening on port 9001 for secure traffic and 8999 for non-secure traffic.
Wide Screen Optimization for BIDI and DBCS
In this release, Wide Screen Optimization has been introduced for BIDI (Bidirectional) and DBCS (Double-Byte Character Set) languages. This enhancement enables fonts to automatically scale and utilize the full presentation area when the screen is resized, eliminating unnecessary blank spaces and improving the visual layout.
Support for FIPS 140-3
This release, improving the security by transitioning from FIPS 140-2 to the newer FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standard for IBM Java runtime, as support for FIPS 140-2 will be deprecated in future updates.
Z and I Emulator for Web Installer Enhancements
From this release onwards, web applications such as the ZIE for Web Client and License Manager can be deployed on application servers through InstallAnywhere during the Z and I Emulator for Web installation process.
Both the Host Access Toolkit and Z and I Emulator for Web installers supports Modify Installation feature. With the Host AccessToolkit, you can add or remove language packs. The Z and I Emulator for Web provides more options, including the ability to add or remove language packs, reconfigure the web server, or completely uninstall the product.
HCL License Manager Enhancement
From this release onwards, HCL License Manager has been extended to support the H2 embedded database along with other databases. H2 will now be the default database.
Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) Support for Z and I Emulator for Web
From this release onwards, the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web supports IPv6 protocols on both the client and server sides.
EHLAPPI Support with Toolkit
The EHLLAPI Library for Z and I Emulator for Web, also known as the HCL Z and I Emulator for Web EHLLAPI Bridge, allows EHLLAPI applications to connect to Z and I Emulator for Web terminal emulator sessions. Previously, this functionality was not available for applications developed using the HCL Host Access Toolkit.
From this release onwards, support for the EHLLAPI Bridge has been extended to include the HCL Host Access Toolkit. As a result, EHLLAPI applications that interact with HCL Z and I Emulator for Web emulator session scan now also interact with applications developed using the Host Access Class Library API and Host Access Beans for Java™ API via the EHLLAPI Bridge.
Fixes for APARs and Internal Defects
This release contains fixes for APARs and internal defects to improve productivity and quality.
What's New in ZIE for Web Client Version 16.0
Intelligent Typing Assistance with Deep Neural Networks in ZIE for Web Client Version 16.0
ZIE for Web Client utilizes a Deep Learning LSTM model to offer command suggestions. As the user begins typing on the green screen, the model starts providing suggestions after 2-3 characters are entered.
Feature Walk Through
A feature walk-through is a guided tour within the Web client that helps new users learn how to use key features. It simplifies the user experience by providing clear, step-by-step instructions, making it easier to get started, avoid errors, and explore important functions. This improves onboarding, builds user confidence, and increases overall engagement.
Visual Macro Editor
The VME is the primary and recommended tool within ZIE for Web Clientfor developing and editing macros. It empowers you to automate interactions with traditional host applications (like 3270 or 5250 green screens) by transforming them into automated workflows.
OpenID Connect Authentication
It is an authentication protocol that enables secure identity verification and single sign-on (SSO) using OAuth in ZIE for Web Client. offering robust authentication and authorization solutions for organizations.
Security Enhancement
This release enhances security by transitioning from the FIPS 140-2 cryptographic standard to the newer FIPS 140-3 standard for the only IBM Java runtime environment. As support for FIPS 140-2 will be deprecated in future updates, adopting FIPS 140-3 ensures continued compliance with the latest federal security requirements and provides improved cryptographic assurance.
Additional Host Code Pages Support
ZIE for Web Client now fully supports all host code pages via the DOM (Document object model) view screen. If a Z and I Emulator for Web user/admin selects an unsupported host code page, the session is initiated using the DOM view screen, enabling the user to view the transformation of the selected host code page on the page.
Data Masking
- Protection: Ensuring sensitive data is not exposed to unauthorized users.
- Usability: Keeping the masked data useful for legitimate purposes.
- Compliance: Adhering to regulatory requirements for data privacy and protection.
Windows Printer Support
ZIE for Web Client allows end users to print directly to the default connected printer, simplifying the printing process.

Web-Based Deployment Wizard
The web-based Deployment Wizard (DW) is a component of the web-based admin console from ZIE for Web Client where users can create multiple sessions (3270,5250, FTP, VT, CICS,3270 Printer and 5250 Printer sessions) using the web page. Users can create Configuration-based, HTML-based, and Combined-based models using Z and I Emulator for Web and ZIE for Web Client.
Printer Icon
- Users can handle the host file printing and the session properties, similar to Z and I Emulator for Web.
- Config Server-based model users can edit the properties and values reflected
from server to client and vice versa. Note: For an HTML-based model printer, session properties and values will be stored in the local cache.

FTP and VT Services under Admin Console
The user can Start, Stop, and Configure FTP and VT services from the admin console using ZIE for Web Client Version 16.0. Re-starting NCServiceManager from Z and I Emulator for Web will restart FTP and VT services, similar to other Z and I Emulator for Web services.
Performance Improvement in FTP
From this release, FTP will upload files as streams rather than buffers, enhancing the service's performance.
Caching of the Delta Changes
In the latest version of ZIE for Web Client, the FTP main screen data, i.e., "Sharing Tab," will be stored under the browser cache.
EHLLAPI Support
When an HTML page is configured with Auto-start EHLLAPI Enabler, the active session page can be used with native applications to execute the EHLLAPI function on the page. An active session is required to execute EHLLAPI functions successfully.
Host File Transfer for DBCS
The JISCII (Send/Receive) option is valid for Japanese DBCS sessions only and converts 1-byte codes to EBCDIC and 2-byte codes to IBM Kanji. JISCII inserts shift in/shift out (SI/SO) characters into DBCS fields.
Menu Commands Key Remap
Z and I Emulator for Web supports menu commands in key remapping, allowing users to assign keys to specific menu command features. Users can assign, unassign, or reset keys within the key remap settings.
Thai Host Code Page Support
ZIE for Web Client supports the following new host code pages in addition to the existing ones.
