About widgets and live text
You can see and act on live text in documents via widgets in HCL iNotes®, if granted access by your administrator.
Administrators can deploy widgets to users for many purposes. Widgets can be deployed to access third-party services such as a web page or OpenSocial Gadget. Administrators can also enable end users to install widgets from the widget catalog.
If an administrator grants you access to work with widgets and live text, you can perform tasks based on the widgets made available to you. For example, given the availability of certain widgets, you could perform these tasks:
- Act on the name of a city, displayed as live text in an email, and show a current, local weather report for the city.
- Check the public profiles of colleagues in your organization to find someone with specific subject matter expertise.
Using live text
Live text displays in a document as dash-underlined text. When you hover over a live text instance, a blue down arrow displays immediately after the underlined text. You can click the down arrow to display a menu of actions you can perform related to the live text subject.
When you hover over a live text instance, you can click the live text to perform the default action. If a default action has not been set yet, a popup list of actions displays. Select an action to perform and, if you want to set the action as the default action, then select Set default. You can still perform the other actions by hovering and then clicking the blue down arrow and selecting a non-default action. You can change the default action after selecting one by opening the drop down menu and expanding the Set Default Action menu and choosing a new default action.
In iNotes, if a widget is installed that has an action configured to use selected text, you can select text in an email and then double click on the wigdet to execute the widget action (using the selected text).
