Manage GLS files
These topics describe the files provided for GLS, which are executable only.
GLS locale files
The locale file defines a GLS locale. It describes the basic language and cultural conventions that are relevant to the processing of data for a given language and territory.
Location of locale files
When the HCL Informix® product needs to obtain locale-specific information, it accesses one of the GLS locale files.

        Location of locale files
        When the HCL Informix® product needs to obtain locale-specific information, it accesses one of the GLS locale files.
        Locale-file subdirectories
        The subdirectories of the lcX subdirectory, where X represents the version number for the locale object-file format, contain the GLS locale files. These subdirectories have names of the form lg_tr, where lg is the 2-character language name and tr is the 2-character territory name that the locale supports.
        Locale source and object files
        Each locale file has two forms.
        Locale file names
        To conform to the 8.3 filename.ext restriction on the maximum number of characters in valid file names and file extensions on DOS systems, a GLS locale file uses a condensed form of the code-set name, codemodf, in its file names.
      - Other GLS files
        In addition to GLS locale files, HCL Informix® products might also use other GLS files.
      - Remove unused files
        HCL Informix® products contain the GLS files.
      - The glfiles utility (UNIX™)
        To comply with MS-DOS 8.3 legacy format for file names, HCL Informix® products use condensed file names to store GLS locales and code-set-conversion files.

  The Informix® GLS API Programmer's Guide describes the global language support (GLS) application programming interface (API) available in Informix ESQL/C and HCL Informix DataBlade® modules.
- Informix® Object Interface for C++ Guide
  The Informix® Object Interface for C++ Programmer's Guide describes how to develop HCL Informix client applications by using the object-oriented C++ programming language.
- Informix® ODBC Driver Guide
  The Informix® ODBC Driver Programmer's Manual serves as a user guide and reference for Informix ODBC Driver, which is the Informix implementation of the Microsoft™ Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) interface, Version 3.0.
- .NET provider options
  The Data Server Provider for .NET DB2® provider option is the preferred Informix® provider for developing new applications.
- Informix® JDBC Driver Guide
  The Informix® JDBC Driver Programmer's Guide describes how to install, load, and use Informix JDBC Driver to connect to the Informix database from within a Java™ application or applet.

  These topics include information about the translated user interface files for Informix® UNIX™ products, locales, and code set conversion tables
- Informix® OLE DB Provider Guide

When the HCL Informix® product needs to obtain locale-specific information, it accesses one of the GLS locale files.

In these paths, INFORMIXDIR is the environment variable that specifies the directory in which you install the HCL Informix® product, and gls is the subdirectory that contains the GLS files. This rest of this section describes the remaining elements in the path name of GLS locale files.
