Managing HCL Local License Server
After you receive your license entitlements, you must verify the system requirements, perform preinstallation tasks, and then install the HCL Local License Server (LLS) product.
Post-installation: Generating the license file
After installing the HCL Local License Server (LLS), you must create deployments in My HCLSoftware (MHS) to manage your entitlements. Each deployment generates a license file that must be copied to the licenses folder on your LLS host machine.

You must license your HCLSoftware product to get access to a full-featured version of your HCLSoftware product for an extended duration and HCLSoftware support.
Managing HCL Local License Server
After you receive your license entitlements, you must verify the system requirements, perform preinstallation tasks, and then install the HCL Local License Server (LLS) product.
- System Requirements
  Before you install HCL Local License Server, ensure that your system meets the hardware and software requirements.
- Preinstallation Tasks
  Before you install HCL Local License Server (LLS), you must perform some necessary tasks to prepare your system and environment.
- Installing HCL Local License Server
  After completing the pre-installation tasks, you can begin installing HCL Local License Server (LLS) 5.3 as a new installation. On Windows, you can also use the upgrade feature to update an existing LLS version (5.0, 5.1, or 5.2) to 5.3. Once installed, you can use it to manage HCLSoftware product licenses.
- Version Upgrade Behavior
  On Windows, an existing HCL Local License Server (LLS) installation can be upgraded to a later version, and the licenses, logs, TLS certificate, and port are retained. On Linux, upgrading from an earlier version to 5.3.0 is not supported.
- Backup and Restore
  When HCL Local License Server (LLS) is uninstalled using the uninstall.bat/sh file, the license files, logs, TLS certificate, and port setting are saved to a backup directory. The installer can restore them during the next installation instead of requiring the server to be configured again.

  When you no longer require HCL Local License Server (LLS) on your system, you can remove it by running the uninstall.bat/sh file located in the installation directory.

Post-installation: Generating the license file

After installing the HCL Local License Server (LLS), you must create deployments in My HCLSoftware (MHS) to manage your entitlements. Each deployment generates a license file that must be copied to the licenses folder on your LLS host machine.

Procedure

Create a deployment and allocate licenses.
1. Log in to My HCLSoftware MHS.
2. Go to the Deployments page.
  
  On your first login, the page is empty and displays only the Add Deployment card.
3. Click Add Deployment to create a new deployment.
4. Provide the following details:
  - Deployment Name: Type a meaningful name for your deployment.
  - Deployment Type: Select the deployment type.
  - Fingerprint: add the fingerprint generated during installation. It is displayed in the console and saved in the installer.txt file.
    
    Copy the full fingerprint string including its prefix, for example v3.lls.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
  - Click Add Deployment.
    - A list of all your purchased license entitlements is displayed.
    - Allocate Licenses:
      
      Enter the number of licenses you want to assign to the new deployment.
      
      The availability count will automatically update when you modify license allocation.
    - Click Save when done.
      
      A new card for your deployment appears on the Deployments page.
Activate the license server and download the license file.
1. Click on the options button of the deployment you created in the previous step.
2. Select Activate License Server.
3. The Activate License Server window appears.
  - Choose Local as the license server type to set up LLS.
  - Click Activate License Server.
  - Enter the fingerprint (copied earlier with prefix v3.lls).
  - Click Save and Download to generate and download the license file.
  - Copy the downloaded license file to the licenses directory of the LLS installation path.
  License folder location: <lls_install_directory>/licenses
  
  Note:
  <lls_install_directory> refers to the directory specified during installation.

Results

You have successfully generated a license file and downloaded it to your host machine.
LLS will automatically detect and apply the license without requiring a restart.
