My HCLSoftware - Overview

You must license your HCLSoftware product to get access to a full-featured version of your product for an extended duration and HCLSoftware support.

To license your product, you must configure your product to connect with an HCL-provided license server. You can begin licensing your product by accessing My HCLSoftware (MHS). MHS provides software distribution and management of your purchased software products entitlement. With an easy-to-use interface, you can create deployments and allocate licenses of your product features to each deployment.

To log in to MHS, you must create your HCLSoftware ID by using the Register for HCLSoftware ID link on the Sign In page. Based on your entitlement, you can access the following features of MHS:
  • Downloads - Lists HCLSoftware products entitled to you to download and install.
  • Deployments - Allows you to create and manage your deployments. A deployment is a collection of allocated licensed features. You create deployments to separate licenses allocated to a specific environment, project, department, and so on. Each deployment has a unique ID. The deployment ID is required at the time of configuring the license information of your product.
    Note: The Deployments feature is available only when you have an entitled license.
The following options are available for you to license your HCLSoftware products:

Local License Server

HCL Local License Server (LLS) is an offline licensing model that can be used when the client machines have limited or no network access.

In this model, LLS is installed in an organization's environment. The offline client machines that require HCLSoftware licenses are connected to the LLS via the Intranet. You create deployments and allocate licenses to deployment using MHS. When LLS is activated, the license file is downloaded which is used for your LLS installation. The licenses are then leased out by LLS to your client machines. For any changes in the license allocation, you must download the license file again, and configure LLS for correct license usage.

You install LLS on a dedicated system that requires a license file, TLS certificate, and key. LLS comes with features that help you get all these requirements and license your products seamlessly. See Managing HCL Local License Server.

Cloud License Server

HCL Cloud License Server (CLS) is an online licensing model that can be used anytime and anywhere with network access.

Use this option when your client machines are connected to the Internet. A direct connection is made from the client machine to the CLS. The licenses are leased out directly from the CLS to the client machines.

To use CLS, you do not need a dedicated system or perform any installation procedure. You can manage and activate licenses in MHS. See Managing HCL Cloud License Server.
