Connecting Notes® clients to servers

After you set up a server to accept inbound connections, it can accept them from both servers and clients. The methods used to establish connections from clients to servers on remote networks are similar to those used when connecting one server to another.

To connect to a remote HCL Domino® server, clients may require Connection documents, and depending on the type of connection, might also require a modem, COM port information, and other data, documents, and files. You can also connect clients to non-Domino Internet servers.

Note: Support for direct dialup modem (X.PC) connections is available only in releases of Domino® earlier than release 8.5. You can use the Domino® Administrator client to configure and maintain direct dialup modem support, but only on servers running releases earlier than 8.5.

The following table provides information on other types of information required to create client-to-server connections.

To connect to Domino® through a pass-through server, users must specify the name of the pass-through server in the current Location document and set up Pass-through Connection documents.
