Roadmap for registering and configuring Notes® roaming users
To upgrade a Notes® user to or downgrade from Domino® server roaming, use the Domino® Administrator client upgrade tool. File server roaming is available for Notes® standard configuration only. To upgrade a Notes® user to or downgrade from file server roaming, use the roaming policy settings document.
About this task
Domino® server
roaming and file server roaming are available for Notes® standard configuration users. Roaming
user functionality for Notes® basic
configuration remains essentially unchanged from earlier Notes® basic configuration releases. None of
the additional roaming capabilities introduced in Notes® 8.5 are supported in the Notes® client basic configuration. Using the
roaming user feature to roam settings between the Notes® client basic configuration and Notes® client standard configuration
is not recommended.
Note: Do not use the roaming tool and the roaming
policy for the same user. Doing so causes errors and unexpected results. Notes® supports Domino® server roaming and file server roaming.
Procedure
- Install or upgrade the Domino® roaming server to the current Domino® release.
- For the Notes® client computers that will allow file server roaming or Domino® server roaming for Notes® standard configuration users, install or upgrade to the current Notes® standard configuration release.
- Configure registered users as roaming users.
- For file server roaming, you can assign the roaming policy in the Assigned Policy field - Administration tab on the user's Person document or by adding the user's name to the Policy Assignment field on the roaming policy document or by adding the user to a group and adding that group name to the Policy Assignment field on the roaming policy document.
- For Domino® server roaming, you can either assign roaming settings during user registration, or after the user is registered. For a registered user, upgrade the user to roaming status using the Roaming option in the Domino® Administrator client. ( )
