Changing a non-roaming user to roaming
When you change a user from non-roaming to IBM® Domino® server roaming, the Administration Process changes the user's status in their Person document from non-roaming to roaming and creates a personal subdirectory for each roaming user.
Before you begin
- At least Author access to the Domino Directory
- If the user has Author access, you must either have the UserModifier role, or be listed in the LocalAdmin field of the user's Person document
- Must be a database administrator on the roaming server. This is needed to create a folder on a remote server.
About this task
This personal subdirectory contains the roaming user's files. Be sure to observe the following guidelines when changing a user's roaming status:
- When changing a non-roaming user to a Domino server roaming user, always use the roaming tools available from , as described in this procedure.
- When changing a Domino server roaming user to a non-roaming user, always use the roaming tools available from the People and Groups tab. See the topic Changing a roaming user to non-roaming in the related links.
- When upgrading to or downgrading from file server roaming, always use policies. To upgrade a non-roaming user to file server roaming, apply the policy to the user. To downgrade a file server roaming user to non-roaming, remove the user from the policy or from the group to which the policy applies. See the Policies section of this documentation for more information.
This procedure is applicable for Domino server-based roaming only.
The roaming user feature
requires the use of Dynamic Client Configuration (DCC). If you have
used the NOTES.INI setting, DisableDynConfigClient=1
to
disable DCC, remove that entry or comment out the entry in the NOTES.INI file
and then restart the client. If DCC is disabled, the end-user is never
prompted as to whether they want to upgrade to roaming status; therefore,
the administration process does not generate the administration requests
that are required to perform the upgrade to roaming status. This applies
only to upgrades to roaming status; it does not apply to new roaming
user setups.
