    Topics in this section describe the tools you can use to administer a Domino® server.
    - The Domino® Administrator
      The Domino® Administrator is the administration client for Notes® and Domino. You can use the Domino Administrator to perform most administration tasks.

        The Domino® Administrator is available for installation in the Notes® single-user Allclient kit on a supported Windows™ release. The Notes single-user Allclient kit is not available for Linux™ or Macintosh.

        After Domino® Administrator installation, the first time you start the Domino Administrator, a setup wizard automatically runs. After you answer the questions displayed by the setup wizard, the Domino Administrator client opens automatically.

        Setting Files preferences
        By setting Files preferences, you can customize which columns appear on the Files tab, change the order in which columns display, and limit the types of files the Domino® Administrator retrieves.
        Setting Monitoring preferences
        You can use the default Monitoring preferences or customize them.
        Setting Registration preferences
        You can set default registration preferences that apply whenever you register new certifiers, servers, and users.
        Setting Statistics preferences
        You set statistics preferences to enable statistics reporting and statistics charting. The Statistics section in Administration preferences is also where you specify the polling and reporting time interval used for gathering and reporting statistics.
      - Roadmaps to Domino® Administrator tools
        Most tabs on the Domino® Administrator include a set of tools that change based on the selected tab. For example, the People and Groups tab includes two tools: one for managing people and one for managing groups.
    - The Web Administrator
      If you have a browser and want to manage and view settings for a Domino® server, you can use the Domino Web Administrator to perform most of the tasks that are available through the Domino Administrator. This section includes the following information about the Domino Web Administrator:
    - The Server Controller and the Domino® Console
      The Server Controller is a Java-based program that controls a Domino® server. Starting the Server Controller starts the Domino server it controls. When a server runs under a Server Controller, you can send operating system commands, Controller commands, and Domino server commands to the Server Controller.

      The Administration Process is a program that automates many routine administrative tasks.

      This section describes the Domino® server commands that are available, as well as methods of issuing those commands.

Setting Basics preferences for domain management

You can set basic administration preferences for how to manage Domino® domains.

Procedure

From the Domino® Administrator, click File > Preferences > Administration Preferences.
In the Basics section, under Manage these Domino Domains do one:
- Click New to add a domain, and then continue with Step 3.
- Click Edit to edit an existing domain, and then continue with Step 3.
- Click Delete to delete an existing domain

Complete these fields and then click OK:

Field	Action
Domain name	Enter the name of the domain to add, or edit an existing name.
Domino® directory servers for this domain	Enter one or more directory servers, separated by commas, or edit the list. For example: Mail-E/East/RenovationsMail-W/West/Renovations
What location settings do you want to use for this domain?	Choose one: Do not change location Change to this location. Specify the location from which you want to manage this domain.

Under Domino® Administrator Startup Settings, complete these fields:

Field	Action
On startup	Choose one of the following startup options: Don't connect to any server Connect to last used server Connect to specific server, and then specify the startup domain and startup server.
Automatically run in live console mode:	Choose this option to open the Domino® Administrator client with a live server console window. Enter Domino® commands from this live console.
Open specific database(s):	Click to open databases that you specify on a server you specify when the Domino® Administrator client is started, and then complete these fields: Database(s): -- By default, this field contains the database file name for the Domino® Domain Monitoring database (DDM.NSF). To add additional databases, enter the database file names, separated by commas. Server -- Specify the name of the server on which the specified databases are stored.
Show administrator home page	Do one: Check this box to see the home (Welcome) page each time you start the Domino® Administrator. Uncheck this box if you do not want to see the Welcome page.
Refresh server bookmarks	Do one: Check this box to update the server's bookmarks each time you start the Domino® Administrator. Uncheck this box if you do not want to refresh the server's bookmarks each time you start the Domino® Administrator.

Click OK, or click Files to continue setting preferences.
