Lotus® Connectors
Lotus® Connectors provide native access to a wide variety of DBMS products, ODBC, the platform File system, Enterprise Resource Planning systems, and Transaction Processing systems.
LSX for Lotus® Connectors
LotusScrip Extensions for Lotus® Connectors (LC LSX) enhances the power of Notes® by extending its scripting to data outside of Notes through the use of Lotus Connectors. The programming model is independent of the individual connector. This eliminates the need to learn each individual system, while at the same time allowing experienced users to access the individual features of a specific system.

This appendix provides information about character sets, including character set translation, character sort order, and a list of the character sets supported by the Lotus® Connector LotusScript® Extensions (LC LSX).

      - International Character Set Translation
        Not all computer systems treat text data the same. Systems around the world have different character sets and sending text data from one country to another may not yield expected results. As well, different database products treat this problem differently.
      - Forcing LEI or DECS to Use a Character Set as Native
        IBM® Lotus Enterprise Integrator® (LEI) and Domino® Enterprise Connection Services (DECS) determines the native character set on the local machine during startup and uses this setting whenever the native character set is required. LEI and DECS can be forced to use a different character set as native by setting the EINativeText variable in the notes.ini file to the suffix of an LEI text stream format.
      - Character Sort Order in LEI
        IBM® Lotus Enterprise Integrator® (LEI) cannot control the sort order specified in the databases that it accesses. If the sort orders used in two databases are not the same, mismatches can arise during Replication activities, causing excessive insert/delete operations and thereby affecting performance. The use of the Order MetaConnector for databases which sort differently is designed to solve sort order differences. Replication also provides an option for case-insensitive string comparison when excessive insert/delete pairs occur during replication between databases that use case-insensitive sorting.
      - Character Set Considerations
        Considerations when working with character sets are listed as follows.
      - List of Supported Character Sets
        The list is given as text stream format constants. Any of these values may be used as a stream format for a text stream when creating scripts using the IBM® Lotus® Connector LotusScript® Extensions (LC LSX) To indicate the character set on the local machine, use the constant LCSTREAMFMT_NATIVE. When providing a character set on the IBM Lotus Enterprise Integrator® (LEI) Administrator, use the stream format constant with the prefix "LCSTREAMFMT_" removed. For Domino® Enterprise Connection Services (DECS) see "Forcing LEI or DECS to Use a Character Set as Native" in this chapter.
    - Appendix E Additional Scripting Capability for LEI
      This appendix provides information about additional methods and properties provided for IBM® Lotus Enterprise Integrator® (LEI) with the LCSession class that expand on the IBM Lotus® Connector LotusScript® Extensions (LC LSX).
  - Accessing external databases through LS:DO
    LS:DO has been in maintenance mode since R5. Developers are advised not to use it. Developers should use the Lotus® Connector LSX for (LCLSX) when accessing external data sources.

  As part of providing additional Java™ reference documentation, Domino® Designer ships with a help plugin that contains Javadoc™ for additional Domino Designer related APIs.
