To effectively manage and improve the delivery process, it is critical to understand the metrics that reflect the different phases of the workflow: Lead time, Cycle time, and Dev cycle time. These metrics provide deeper insights at the issue level for pinpointing to identify the delays and measure efficiency. Each metric provides a different perspective, helping both technical and business teams align performance and delivery expectations.
Name Description
Lead Time The total time from initial request or planning of the work to its completion. This includes all stages—waiting, development, testing, and delivery.
Cycle Time The time from the start of actual work to the delivery of the final output to the customer. It focuses only on the active execution phase.
Dev Cycle Time The time from the start of the development team work on a task to the end of the development phase, just before it is released to production.

Viewing the Lead time, Cycle time and Dev-cycle time metrics

You can view the Lead time, Cycle time and Dev-cycle time in the Insights page on Velocity dashboard.

  1. Click Insights > All Dashboards.
  2. Click card view layout to display the dashboard card layout view. Alternatively, you can click list view layout to display the dashboard list layout view.
  3. Click on the name of required dashboard on the Insights page.
  4. Click , and expand Delivery Flow option.
  5. Click for Lead Time, Cycle Time, and Dev Cycle Time.
  6. Click Save Dashboard.

    The Lead Time, Cycle Time, and Dev Cycle Time are added to the dashboard. You can view the metric table with graphical representation of the Lead Time, Cycle Time, and Dev Cycle Time

The Lead Time Table, Cycle Time Table, and Dev Cycle Time Table display the fields detailed in the following table:

Lead Time Lead time metric in days. Note: The lead time only appears in the Lead Time Table.

Dev Cycle Time Cycle time metric in days. Note: The dev-cycle time only appears in the Dev Cycle Time Table.
