Working with Windows Explorer
- To navigate up in a directory hierarchy, display the tool bar (click ) and click the Up One Level icon.
- It is often helpful to work in a two-paned window, with
folders in the left pane, and the contents of the current folder in the right.
If you are using the one-pane display, (for example, if you open My Computer
from the Desktop), change it as follows:
- Right-click an item to work with and click Explore.
- You can change the style of the display with any of these commands on the View menu: Large Icons, Small Icons, List, or Details.
- When you change an item in Windows Explorer, the change may not be displayed immediately. Also, when you change a file, Windows Explorer may place the file at the end of the file list. In either of these situations, update the window by clicking .
- You may find it easier to remember your context if you set
Windows Explorer to display the current directory in its title bar:
- In Windows Explorer, click .
- In the Folder Options window, under Advanced settings, Files and Folders, set Display the full path in title bar.
- Click OK.
