to let the people in your network know what you're doing. Updating
your status message from the Home page automatically updates the status
message that displays in your profile.
About this task
You can keep the people in your network informed about what
you're doing by regularly updating your personal status message. For
example, you might want to post a message to let people know that
you're busy preparing for a meeting or that you have a vacation coming
up. Or you might want to share a link to an interesting website with
the people in your network. You can use the @mention feature to
mention specific colleagues in your status updates and share your
news with them. This feature encourages other people to contribute
to the update thread and helps to get a conversation going.
Procedure
To update your status message, complete the following
steps.
- Click What are you working on right now from
any of the activity stream views.
- Enter your status message in the field that displays.
The administrator can configure the character limit available
for status updates so the length of the message that you can enter
might vary depending on your deployment.
Tips:
- To tag your message with a specific keyword, type the keyword
prefixed with a hash (#) symbol as part of your message. When you
save the message, the keyword is automatically converted to a link.
Other users can click the link to search for status updates that are
tagged with the same keyword.
- To mention a colleague in your status update and share your message
directly with them, enter the at (@) symbol followed by the person's
name, and then select the person's name from the drop-down list that
displays. When you post your status, a notification email is sent
to the person and a message is also posted to their profile to let
them know that you mentioned them. You can click on a name to display
the person's profile. Separate multiple names with the space character.
You can add names anywhere in the status update field.
- When you paste a URL into the status message field, the URL is automatically converted to a
hyperlink which dynamically displays a preview of the URL.

tags that are associated with the URL are automatically displayed with the hyperlink. You can also
preview any URLs that contain videos. Only URLs to external links on the web are
