Comparing and merging schemas

You can compare and merge schemas.

Procedure

To compare and merge schemas:
  1. Start the Designer.
  2. In the Schema Repository Explorer view or the History view, select a single schema version, or select the two schema versions that you want to compare. To select multiple versions, click the first version and then hold down the Control key while you click on the second version.
Note that you can select versions from multiple schema repositories.
  3. Right-click in the view and then click Compare With > Each Other, Compare With > Predecessor, or Compare With > Another Version, depending on the items that you want to compare.
    The Compare view opens.
  4. The Schema Structure Compare section shows the structural differences in the schemas that you are comparing.
  5. To view the differences between individual elements in the schema, expand the nodes in the Schema Structure Compare tree and look for the items that have a change icons associated with them.
The red icon means that there is a conflict, the <> icon indicates that there is a content change conflict (an attribute value or a script has changed, for example), the plus sign icon (+) means that something was added, and the minus sign icon (-) means that something was removed.
  6. Double-click on an item to view the details in the Schema Revision Element Compare section.
The differences are displayed in two panes, one for each schema version.
  7. Use the buttons in the Schema Revision Element Compare section to navigate through all of the differences, merge content, and resolve conflicts.
