HCL Commerce Version 9.1.8.0 or later

Migrating IBM Websphere Commerce Version 7 Feature Pack 8 assets for the Assets tool

After the reintroduction of the Assets tool in Management Center for HCL Commerce with HCL Commerce version 9.1.8.0, you can migrate your IBM Websphere Commerce Version 7 Feature Pack 8 assets, and ensure that your Assets tool configuration is correct, to continue using the tool in HCL Commerce Version 9.1.

To learn more about the Assets tool in Management Center, see Assets tool.

Before you begin

  • Ensure that your migrated assets tool configuration is updated or set for use with the Assets tool in HCL Commerce Version 9.1. This was covered earlier in the migration process in the topic Migrating IBM Websphere Commerce Version 7 Feature Pack 8 configuration files.
  • Ensure that your existing environments do not have pending scheduled jobs for persisting managed files, and that all managed files are already persisted on the file system.

Procedure

  1. Configure persistent storage for managed files in your new environments.
  2. Update your deployment configuration to point to the new persistent volume storage.
    • For Docker-based deployments:

This is done automatically for Docker-based deployments. Simply redeploy with a version of HCL Commerce version 9.1.8.0 or greater.

    • For Kubernetes-based deployments:

Update your Persistent volume for the Assets Tool configuration in the HCL Commerce Helm Chart.

  3. Migrate your existing assets from your old environments into your new environments.

Simply copy the files from your old WebSphere Commerce persisted storage into their new persisted storage location created in step #1.

  4. Optional: Redeploy any existing deployments to apply the changes.
At this point you can continue your migration. If you are enabling the Assets tool for a previous migration, you must redeploy your deployment for the Assets tool to function.

Results

You have configured persistent storage, and your new HCL Commerce Version 9.1 environments are configured and redeployed to use it for files that are added to the Assets tool within Management Center. Your site also contains all of the same files from your migrated WebSphere Commerce installation.
