Deploying WebSphere Commerce Search
WebSphere Commerce Search is deployed in the development environment in an embedded configuration by default. You can deploy WebSphere Commerce Search in the standard or advanced configurations, depending on your environment.

The managed configuration is a variation of the advanced configuration, but contains streamlined configuration tasks, where all managed production Solr cluster members are federated and managed by a deployment manager.

Then, federates them across nodes using the deployment manager (DMGR).

        Federating and clustering the search server in the managed configuration
        After you set up the WebSphere Commerce Search server in the managed configuration, you can federate the node to the deployment manager (DMGR) and create a cluster that contains the WebSphere Commerce and WebSphere Commerce Search servers.
        Setting up WebSphere Commerce Search in the managed configuration
        You can initially set up WebSphere Commerce Search in the managed configuration. Or, you can switch an existing search cluster that is managed by a deployment manager from the advanced configuration to the managed configuration.
        Setting up the search index in the managed configuration
        You can deploy your search index structure on your WebSphere Commerce server in the managed configuration. Then, you can configure WebSphere Commerce to use the Solr index by preparing the input property file and running the search index setup utility. This utility ensures that your index is built successfully by using your WebSphere Commerce master catalog data.
        Configuring the managed repeater and subordinates to perform index check validation
        You can configure the managed repeater and subordinate index cores to perform index validation during replication. Index validation is triggered every time index replication completes downloading new index files into the repeater or subordinate. If both nodes are synchronized, hence, no files are downloaded, index validation is not run. Index validation is configured at the core level.
        Creating a managed master or repeater
        You can create a managed master or repeater in the managed configuration. It is recommended to use only managed nodes as part of your production system.
        Changing Solr configuration file properties
        To override default values for managed search templates set in the solrconfig.xml file use a solrcore.properties file. You can create a solrcore.properties file in the conf directory of a master, subordinate, or repeater core under the managed Solr template.
        Packaging and deploying the search server in the managed configuration
        You can package and deploy the WebSphere Commerce Search server in the managed configuration. The managed configuration is a variation of the advanced configuration, but contains streamlined configuration tasks.

Deploying and managing the WebSphere Commerce Search server in the managed configuration

You can deploy and work with the WebSphere Commerce Search server in the managed configuration. The managed configuration is a variation of the advanced configuration, but contains streamlined configuration tasks, where all managed production Solr cluster members are federated and managed by a deployment manager.

About this task

Managed configurations are Solr home templates that can be managed by the deployment manager. The templates can be for master, subordinate, and repeater servers. An input loading property file is used to generate the different templates and configure replication. The WebSphere Application Server Deployment Manager is used to perform partial EAR updates. Then, all the managed nodes are synchronized with the managed Solr templates. Optionally, you can configure the managed repeater and subordinate index cores to perform index validation during replication before packaging and deploying the search server.
