Installing WebSphere Commerce on different operating systems
Each operating system has its own unique steps for installing WebSphere Commerce. Throughout the installation topics, there are tags that determine steps or notes that are specific to a platform.

You can choose to install separate components when you use the WebSphere Commerce
Installation wizard. Each of the following components can be installed on separate nodes:
- WebSphere Commerce Server

This component provides all of the functionality of WebSphere Commerce.
Selecting this component installs the following subcomponents on the node:- WebSphere Application Server base productNote: WebSphere Application Server files that are needed for WebSphere Commerce to function are installed. Do not confuse this subcomponent with the separate WebSphere Application Server Version 8.5.5.7 software that needs to be installed as a prerequisite to installing WebSphere Commerce.
- WebSphere Commerce Server
- IBM Knowledge Center
- WebSphere Commerce starter stores
- WebSphere Application Server base product
- Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities
- This component enables the ability to create instances and configure WebSphere Commerce from a node that is remote from the WebSphere Commerce node.
- IBM Knowledge Center
- The IBM Knowledge Center is a subcomponent of the WebSphere Commerce Server. The IBM Knowledge Center is used to provide context-sensitive help in WebSphere Commerce tools such as the Administration Console and Management Center.
Note: Installing WebSphere Commerce does not create a WebSphere Commerce
instance automatically. You must create the instance after you install WebSphere Commerce and
its software stack.
