Migrating WebSphere Commerce
Migrating WebSphere Commerce includes completing steps in a specific order.
Preparing to migrate
The following sections describe specific steps you must complete while you still have your production system running. The sections also describes some considerations you must make prior to beginning your migration to WebSphere Commerce 7.0. If you do not complete the premigration actions, your database tier migration might not succeed. The migration program reports any problems in as much detail as requested at execution time. If such a situation occurs, let the migration program run to completion to report all the problems it finds in the first run. This provides opportunity to fix all problems before the program is run again.
Installing a new WebSphere Commerce Version 7 software stack
To migrate WebSphere Commerce, you must first install a new WebSphere Commerce Version 7 software stack on your existing Version 5.6.1 or Version 6 system or on a new system that does not already have WebSphere Commerce installed.

Note: You do not need to create a new instance. The WebSphere Commerce Version 7 migration utility will help you migrate your database and application from Version 5.6.1 or Version 6 to Version 7.
