Supported operating systems

The tables in this section provide detailed information about the system requirements for BigFix Scanner.

11.0.40.0 BigFix Scanner Service supported operating systems
In BigFix Scanner 11.0.40.0, it is possible to deploy BigFix Scanner Service installed as part of the solution. BigFix Scanner Service provides additional scanning features and is available for the following operating systems:
  • Windows 10 or higher
  • Windows Server 2016 or higher
Using BigFix Scanner on older BigFix Platform versions
New capabilities or solutions provided by the BigFix Scanner might depend on functions of the BigFix Platform. For information about minimal supported BigFix Platform versions for given product use cases, refer to the BigFix Platform and Inventory product documentations.

Agent Version Requirements

To utilize certain features related to the BigFix Scanner, you must use BigFix Platform Agent version 11.0.2 or higher.

  • Scanner API Usage: Accessing the BigFix Scanner APIs in the Platform Content using the sqlite inspector requires Agent 11.0.2 or higher. Older versions will encounter an SQL execution error when attempting to access unsupported APIs.
  • Analysis Property Reporting: Properties that query the BigFix Scanner APIs also require Agent 11.0.2 or higher to be reported correctly.

Limitations on Older Agent Versions

If you are running an Agent version older than 11.0.2, the following analysis properties will not be reported:

  • Scanner Information: Cache Folder, FS Cache Status, FS Cache Timestamp
  • Scanner Trace Settings: All properties
  • File Scan Statistics - Scanner Service: All properties

Lack of reporting of those values does not impact the functionality of the BigFix Scanner itself.

Note: Windows filenames with unpaired surrogates are not representable—The filenames cannot be properly represented or processed, as unpaired surrogates are invalid in UTF-16 encoding. This results in an inability to correctly handle Windows filenames.
Windows Notes:
  1. Installation with Server Core or Nano Server is not supported.
  2. If you use a 64-bit system, always run the disconnected scanner scripts in the 64-bit command prompt.

Notes applying to hypervisors on AIX operating systems:
  1. Supported Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) version 2.2.3 or higher. Before you start installation of the BigFix client, run oem_setup_env command to place the user into the OEM software installation and setup environment.
  2. In rare cases when machine is live migrated using Live Partition Mobility technology BigFix Inventory may wrongly calculate PVU values (high watermarks). This is known limitation that will be mitigated in future releases.
