v2.1.7+Exposing internal AI agents to external clients by using the Agent-to-Agent protocol

You can expose selected internal HCL Universal Orchestrator AI agents as Agent-to-Agent (A2A) agents. The A2A protocol provides a standard framework for discovering and invoking agent clients.

When an agent is made available through the A2A protocol, external A2A clients can perform the following actions:
  • Review the agent description and supported skills
  • Submit task messages to the agent
  • Receive execution results from the agent

The AI agents of basic type are made available for external A2A clients. This feature enables external AI agents to delegate tasks to HCL Universal Orchestrator AI agents, facilitating cross-platform collaboration across different technical systems.

Each available AI agent has a unique agent card. An A2A Agent card defines the tools, capabilities, and executable skills available to an AI agent. Each workflow within the agent is mapped and displayed as a skill. Workflow service descriptions and tags are exposed as skill metadata. The resource details within the workflow are protected by standard HCL Universal Orchestrator API security, and the agent card explicitly declares that a bearer credential is required.

You can use the agent card to obtain access details and information about internal AI agents. In an environment where HCL Universal Orchestrator is installed, access the agent card at the following path:
/twsd/api/v2/a2a/agents/agentId/.well-known/agent-card.json
Note: Obtain the agentId value by running Orchestration CLI commands or querying the database.

After reviewing the available agent skills and tools, you can determine whether the agent meets your task requirements. The agent card provides all the connection details required to integrate external tools with the agent.
