Session Name The name you want your session to have. The name appears beneath the session's icon and at the top of the session window.
Destination Address The host name or TCP/IP address of the Telnet server to which you want the session to connect. This can be the Z and I Emulator for Web server (if the session will connect through the Redirector), a communications server/gateway or a host system.
If you are configuring a Host Printing session to use only as an associated printer session, you can leave this field blank. When the associated printer session starts, Z and I Emulator for Web will use the same address used by the display session.
The Destination Address field will be disabled if SLP is enabled.

Destination Port The port number on which the target server is listening for connections. If the session will connect to the Z and I Emulator for Web Redirector, this number must match the Redirector's Local Port number.
The default port is 23 for 3270, 5250 and VT, and 2006 for CICS.
If you are configuring a Host Printing session for use as only an associated printer session, you can leave this field blank. When the associated printer session starts, Z and I Emulator for Web will use the same port used by the display session.
The Destination Port field will be disabled if SLP is enabled.

Protocol Select one of the following security protocols from the list:
- Telnet
- Enables a connection between the workstation and a host server that is not secure.
- Telnet - TLS
- Enables Transport Layer Security (TLS). TLS version 1.0 is the default security protocol for Z and I Emulator for Web clients. Note that TLS allows security negotiations from TLS version 1.0 to SSL version 3.0.
- Telnet - SSL only
- Enables SSL version 3.0 security. Select this protocol only if the server cannot correctly negotiate a TLS connection.
A lock icon is displayed on the session status bar to indicate to the user that the session is secure. The encryption strength, for example, 64, 128, or 256, is also displayed next to the lock icon and when the mouse hovers over the lock icon. |
TN3270E (3270 Display session) If the server/gateway or host system to which the session will connect does not support the TN3270E (Enhanced) protocol, click No. The Enhanced protocol lets you specify the LU or LU Pool to which the session must connect and, if necessary, an associated printer session. In addition, the Enhanced protocol supports the Network Virtual Terminal (NVT) protocol, which lets you connect to servers in ASCII mode. For example, you can use this to log on to a firewall.
Normally, if a TN3270E server proposes contention-resolution mode during Telnet negotiation, the Z and I Emulator for Web client automatically communicates with the TN3270E server in contention-resolution mode. However, you can set an HTML parameter that causes the Z and I Emulator for Web client to decline contention-resolution mode (see NegotiateCResolution).
Contention Resolution Contention-resolution mode is an optional feature of the TN3270E protocol. If a 3270 Display session is configured to use TN3270E, and if the TN3270E server proposes contention-resolution mode during Telnet negotiation, then the Z and I Emulator for Web client automatically communicates with the TN3270E server in contention-resolution mode.
However, bugs still exist in server-side implementations of TN3270E contention-resolution mode, and these bugs may cause connectivity problems for Z and I Emulator for Web clients configured to use TN3270E.

LU or Pool Name (3270 Display/Printer sessions) You can specify the name of an LU or LU Pool, defined at the Telnet server, to which the session must connect. If you do not specify an LU or pool name, the result depends on the type of server to which the session is connecting. If you are connecting to Communications Server/390 V2R10 or later, you can enter the name of an LUGROUP for the POOL name.
When Enable SLP is Yes, this field can contain only a pool name. If a specific LU name is required (for example, for printing), do not use SLP.
If you are configuring a Host Printing session for use only as an associated printer session, this field can be left blank. When the associated printer session starts, Z and I Emulator for Web will determine the LU name from the Telnet server.
The first character must be A-through-Z, $ (dollar sign), @ (commercial at sign), or # (number sign). The remaining characters can be A-through-Z, 0-through-9, $, @, or #.

Workstation ID (5250 Display/Printer sessions) Defines the name of this workstation. The first character must be A-through-Z, $ (dollar sign), @ (commercial at sign), or # (number sign). The remaining characters can be A-through-Z, 0-through-9, $, @, #, . (period), and _ (underscore). If you do not complete this field, a workstation ID is automatically defined by the host.
The Telnet 5250 client can generate a new and non-arbitrary Workstation ID for a session without requiring per-session customization or a user exit. Keywords and special characters in the Workstation ID field can cause some or all of the following information to be substituted into the Workstation ID value that is sent to the TN5250 server:
- Computer name or User name (&COMPN, &USERN)
- short Session ID(*)
- Session Type ID(%)
- Collision Avoidance ID(=)
The short Session ID has a value in the range A-Z. For example if the Workstation ID is configured as 123*, the device names generated for the first three sessions are 123A, 123B, and 123C since the session ID letters are assigned in order from A to Z.
The Session Type ID values are "S" for display or "P" for Printer. For example, if the Workstation ID is configured as %123* and the session type is printer then the device names generated for the first three sessions are P123A, P123B, and P123C.
When specified, the Collision Avoidance ID enables the generation of a new Workstation ID if the Telnet server rejects the previous name (which can occur when the old name is already in use on the iSeries).
When configuring 5250 sessions, you can input new wildcard combinations in the Workstation ID field that allow the Z and I Emulator for Web client to automatically generate more ID variations for winning connection acceptance from the host. This decreases the time required for session connection, as it decreases the number of times the host must reissue a request to the client for valid Workstation ID.
The wildcard character is [=]. It can be input multiple times in the Workstation ID field (located in the session properties Connection window), in any combination with other alphanumeric characters. (For example: N=A=M=E, NAME==, etc.) With each use of the wildcard, you decrease the likelihood of generating a Workstation ID already claimed by another session:
- Use of two [=] results in approximately 1 in 50 chances of duplicating an established ID.
- Use of three [=] results in approximately 1 in 300 chances of duplicating an established ID.
The number of unique names generated is approximately 36 N
, where N is the number of equal signs [=].
For example: Given the input of NA=ME for Workstation ID, the one [=] can trigger generation of 36 unique IDs that use the alphanumeric characters specified (N, A, M, E). Adding a second [=] can trigger generation of approximately 1296 unique IDs, etc.
Screen Size (3270/5250 and VT Display sessions) Defines the number of rows and columns in the session screen. Click the arrow next to the field to see the choices.
The default is 24x80.
Print-Buffer Size (3270 Printer session) The size of the block of memory reserved for print data that is being sent to the printer. The valid values are in the drop-down list. This applies only to LU3 sessions.
The default Print-Buffer Size is 1920.
Host Code Page Specifies the table used to map EBCDIC codes from the host to appropriate ANSI graphics on the workstation. Click the arrow next to the field to see the choices, which vary according to the session type. The default is the code page that corresponds to the locale for which your workstation is configured. You must set it to the code page supported by the host system to which the session will connect.
Auto-Connect Automatically connects the session to the target telnet server. If you set this to No, you must click Connect in the session menu every time you want to connect a session.
The default is Yes.
Auto-Reconnect Reconnects the session automatically if communications fails and later recovers.
The default is Yes.
Lock Check Lock to prevent users from changing the associated startup value for a session. Users can not change values for most fields because the fields are unavailable. However, functions accessed from the session menu bar or tool bar can be changed.
