About navigation in HCL VersionVault Windows Explorer
You can click the Views tab in the Shortcut pane to access and navigate among HCL VersionVault objects (UCM projects and HCL VersionVault views).
UCM project access
You can access a UCM project in the Views page in the Shortcut pane. For each UCM project that you join, a shortcut bar is created with the project name. If you access a UCM project by clicking on its shortcut bar in the Views pane, the shortcut bar for the active page slides to the position immediately above the page contents. The shortcut icons for the development views and integration view attached to streams in the project are displayed in the pane.
The Folder pane contains the shortcut icons for the development view and integration view. Clicking the icon for the development view activates the Folder pane and displays the view contents.
The Folder pane for a project contains folders for the selected view. Under a view are subfolders for components of the project. The title bar shows the path of the selected view. The status bar shows the view tag associated with the current view, the number of items listed in the Details pane, and the number of listed items that are selected.
One of the folders for a project is labeled My Activities. Under this folder, you see all UCM activities that are in your stream. The status bar displays the name of the current UCM activity.
Non-UCM view access
You can access a non-UCM view by clicking the Views tab in the Shortcut pane and clicking the General shortcut bar. By default, there are icons for shortcuts on non-UCM views that you own on the General page.
View startup
Clicking a view shortcut on a UCM project page or on the General page activates (starts) the view, activates the Details pane, and displays the Folder pane. This establishes a current view. HCL VersionVault Windows Explorer displays in the Folder pane a hierarchy rooted at the view tag, and, as subfolders under the view, the contents of the view. For a dynamic view, the subfolders are for components of UCM projects and for all mounted VOBs. For a snapshot view, the subfolders are for all VOBs rooted at the view. By default, in a snapshot view, only loaded elements are visible. You can also change a setting to display the unloaded elements. The Details pane is activated and lists the subfolders that are exposed in the Folder pane.
The title bar shows the currently selected path within the view. The status bar shows the view tag associated with the current view, the name of the current UCM activity set in the view, the number of items listed in the Details pane, and the number of listed items that are selected.
As you click a subfolder, the subordinate elements are displayed in the Details pane and show source control details about the items, element and version information. In the details, elements that possess unique characteristics (such as a file under version control or an eclipsed version) have the visual characteristics familiar in other source control tools.
The My Activities folder
One of the folders under a view for a UCM project is labeled My Activities.
The My Activities folder lists in the Details pane all UCM activities that are in your work area. In the list of activities, the current activity is indicated by a checked box.
URL access
You can access a URL by clicking the Toolbox tab in the Shortcut pane, the page on which the shortcut is located, and the shortcut to the URL. An Internet Explorer control is activated in the Details pane and the target location is accessed. The Details pane renders the HTML content of the target. The URL tab on the Details pane shows the path to the URL. The Folder pane remains unchanged, but the Information pane, if displayed, is occluded. You can navigate HTML pages by clicking and . The status bar maintains the context for the previously selected view.
Default context
Clicking an icon in the Shortcut pane establishes that shortcut as the default of its type: view. VersionVault Windows Explorer saves this default context when the tool exits, so that it is restored when the tool restarts.
Like the Details pane, the Folder pane maintains navigation context for the current view. Clicking a URL shortcut does not disturb the navigation context. This context is maintained across VersionVault Windows Explorer starts.
History of visited locations
As you move from one location to another, VersionVault Windows Explorer stores the path for each of your visits. To return to a previously visited location, click File and, from the numbered list of paths (ordered most recently visited to first visited), select the path.
