Copying product packages using Packaging Utility
To create a repository from which IBM Installation Manager can install product, you must use the IBM Packaging Utility to copy the product package to the repository.
About this task
Packaging Utility can also be used to combine multiple product packages into a single repository location. See the Packaging Utility online help for more information.
Procedure
- Start the Packaging Utility.
- Click . The Source page opens. Repositories are listed in the Content table.
- Click , if the repository for your product package is not
listed. Remember: A repository can be a path to a directory in the file system or a URL to a directory on a server.

Click Browse and navigate to the directory containing the HCL product installation files. Example repository
locations:
- Windows™:
C:\installation_files\HCL_product\disk1\diskTag.inf
- Linux or UNIX systems:
/installation_files/HCL_product/disk1/diskTag.inf
If you have a repository that contains a diskTag.inf and a repository.config, you must select the diskTag.inf directory. When the repository.config directory is selected, the copy process fails. - Windows™:
- Select the repository to copy and click Next.
- Accept the License Agreement to continue
- In the Destination window, select an existing repository directory from the drop-down list or click Browse... to select a directory path.
- Click Next. Review the repositories selected for copying.
- Click Copy.
Example
You use the Packaging Utility to copy the product installation
files into the repository location: C:\install\myrepository
.
In Installation Manager,
you open the Repository preferences page and add the repository location, C:\install\myrepository
,
to the repository table. You can also place the repository on a UNC
drive, or place the repository on a web server to make the directories
and files available over HTTP.
