Administering the HCL VersionVault registry
The HCL VersionVault registry is a central repository of information about shared resources such as VOBs and views.
Managing registry data
Registry data for most common operations is managed automatically. Other operations can require an administrator to create, remove, or modify registry data.
Adding an HCL VersionVault registry region
Adding an HCL VersionVault registry region requires you to create the region, add hosts to it, and populate the region with tags.

    You can configure an HCL VersionVault host running Linux® or the UNIX system to support access to VOBs and dynamic views from computers that do not run HCL VersionVault.

    If you can estimate the number of elements, versions, and derived objects that a VOB will ultimately contain, you can compute a very rough estimate of the size of a VOB that can accommodate them. VOB storage includes a database and pools. On Windows®, the database and pools must reside on a single disk partition. On Linux® or the UNIX system, the pools can be located on a different partition or host, using symbolic links.

Assigning a host to a new registry region

After the new registry region has been created, you can assign hosts to it.

About this task

A host’s default registry server and region assignments are usually established when HCL VersionVault is installed. To assign the host to a different registry server or region:

Specify the new registry host and region:
- On a host running Linux or the UNIX system, edit the file /var/adm/hcl/versionvault/config/rgy_hosts.conf to contain the name of the new registry host and optional backup registry host; then edit the file /var/adm/hcl/versionvault/config/rgy_region.conf to contain the name of a region in the new registry. You must be root to change these files.
- On a Windows® host, unmount any mounted VOBs, click Start > Settings > Control Panel , and then start the VersionVault program. On the Registry page, type the name of the new registry server host in the Use registry server on host field, and then select an appropriate region from the Windows Region list.
Stop HCL VersionVault.
Restart HCL VersionVault.

You can verify that the new region assignment is in effect by running the cleartool hostinfo –long command.

Note: If a host has been configured to allow remote administration, you can also use the host node of the HCL VersionVault Administration Console to change the host's registry region. You cannot use the HCL VersionVault Administration Console to stop or start HCL VersionVault on a host.
