Configuring HCL VersionVault to support Samba

About this task

This task is applicable to all HCL VersionVault clients on Windows® that have the MVFS installed and that will access Samba shares.

The default MVFS settings (1800 with scaling factor 1) do not need any modification to work with latest Samba VOB servers if Samba hosts are running a current Samba version. Earlier Samba versions (2.x to 3.x) require specific MFVS settings.

If upgrading from an earlier release of VersionVault, you might have old values in these settings. Do the following steps to check and remove these settings, if applicable.

Note: Samba Winbind as a Unix login provider is not supported for VersionVault hosts. You can use LDAP/NIS/third-party providers (Centrify, QAS) instead of Winbind. For more information about Windbind Policy, see technote 396639.

Procedure

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Open the VersionVault Control Panel (also referred to as the VersionVault Properties window).
    • Shift+right-click the VersionVault Control Panel and select Run as administrator.
    • If the VersionVault Control Panel does not appear, but VersionVault is installed, then contact HCL Technical Support for assistance.
  3. On the MVFS Performance tab, if the Override check box is selected for both Maximum number of mnodes to keep on the VOB free list and Maximum number of mnodes to keep for cleartext free list, then clear the Override check box.
  4. Click OK to apply the changes.
  5. Restart Windows®.
