Administering HCL VersionVault

VOB administration
Because VOBs are the principal repository for artifacts under HCL VersionVault control, VOB administration is one of the HCL VersionVault administrator’s most important tasks.
Automounting VOBs
HCL VersionVault supports automounting Versioned Object Bases (VOBs). This feature is relevant to users of VersionVault dynamic views only. VOB automounting can be configured on Linux and Solaris systems only.

        Users will notice little or no difference when VOB automounting is enabled. Whenever a VOB is referred to, it is automatically mounted if it is not already mounted. VOB mounts that have not been accessed for the default timeout period are unmounted automatically.

        Update the system's master automount configuration file
        These instructions require that autofs and the automount services of the host operating system are already configured and enabled. If this is not the case, consult the documentation for the host operating system for details about enabling these requirements.
        Mount point information in the Auto.mvfs file
        The entry added to the auto.master file associates the specific mount point path name with a map file that contains the supporting details for autofs to mount the VOBs.

        To prevent all public VOBs from being mounted during HCL VersionVault startup, create a /var/adm/hcl/versionvault/no_vob_mount_on_startup file.

        When a VOB tag is created, options such as ro or exportid might be defined. In the default configuration in which the cleartool mount -all command mounts all public VOBs when HCL VersionVault is started, those options are read from the VersionVault registry and applied to the VOB mount.

      When you locate VOB storage on a NAS device, you can easily replace the VOB host for any VOB on the NAS device with another VOB host of the same architecture without actually moving the VOB storage.

    You can configure an HCL VersionVault host running Linux® or the UNIX system to support access to VOBs and dynamic views from computers that do not run HCL VersionVault.

    If you can estimate the number of elements, versions, and derived objects that a VOB will ultimately contain, you can compute a very rough estimate of the size of a VOB that can accommodate them. VOB storage includes a database and pools. On Windows®, the database and pools must reside on a single disk partition. To restart autofs and HCL VersionVault:

Stop VersionVault.
Restart the automounter.

The specific syntax for restarting the automounter depends on the operating system platform.

Linux: systemctl restart autofs

Solaris: svcadm restart system/filesystem/autofs
Start VersionVault.
