VersionVault for Microsoft Visual Studio installation planning

VersionVault for Visual Studio can be deployed with the VersionVault for Windows™ client or with the VersionVault Explorer. After deployment, HCL VersionVault for Visual Studio provides an interface to complete HCL VersionVault operations from the Microsoft™ Visual Studio IDE.

When you install and configure VersionVault for Visual Studio on a system where Microsoft Visual Studio is available, users can complete VersionVault operations such as file checkin and checkout, version compare, and view updates from the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE. HCL VersionVault for Visual Studio is provided in two formats:
  • VersionVault for Visual Studio
    • Installed and updated by using Installation Manager.
    • Installed as part of the HCL VersionVault for Windows client installation.
    • Installed on a system with HCL VersionVault.
  • VersionVault Explorer for Visual Studio
    • Installed and updated by using Installation Manager.
    • Installed as part of the HCL VersionVault Remote Client installation.
    • Installed separately on client systems without HCL VersionVault, for HCL VersionVault Remote Client use.
Note: If Microsoft Visual Studio is upgraded or reinstalled, the VersionVault for Visual Studio integration must be installed again.

Prerequisites

Microsoft Visual Studio must be installed on the system before you install VersionVault for Visual Studio.
  1. Run a custom installation for Microsoft Visual Studio.
  2. During the installation process, do not install Visual Source Safe or make Visual Source Safe the source control program.
