How do I install the client on an Android device?

The HCL Verse client provides a simple, easy-to-use interface with a minimal number of additional configuration settings required.

The client allows users to customize how they are notified when new data arrives. Depending on device capabilities, users can set the device to vibrate, display a visual indicator, or play a sound when a new mail message arrives. The client also allows for customization of how much data to sync with the device to optimize the use of device memory.

Note: You must have a HCL Traveler subscription before you can access the Traveler service.

The following methods are supported methods for downloading the HCL Verse client to an Android device:

Use the following steps to download and install the HCL Verse client from the HCL Verse user home page (if necessary).
  1. Download the HCL Verse client. You can download the HCL Verse client from the HCL Verse user home page using the following procedure:
    1. Turn on your mobile device.
    2. Launch the device browser.
    3. Go to the HCL Verse user home page at https://hostname/traveler.
    4. Press Download the HCL Verse client for Android from the app store. The Google Play store opens.

    5. Select Configure your Android. Transfer the file to your mobile device and open the file.
  2. Install the HCL Verse client.
    1. After the the installation completes, select Open from the Google Play app on your device, to start the configuration wizard. Review the End User License Agreement page and if you agree to the license select Agree to continue.
    2. Enter the server address used for connecting to your HCL Traveler server. If you use a custom port number for the connection, then enter the server name using a format like the following example:
      traveler.server.com:8880 

      You do not need to specify the HTTPS prefix to utilize SSL. SSL is the default and will use the standard port, 443, for secure communication to the Traveler server.

    3. Enter your user ID and password and select Log In.

    4. Select the applications you want to sync.
    5. Select Next.
    6. If you are prompted to allow permissions for the Verse application, select the allow button to grant access as desired.
  3. Follow the instructions on the device screen to set and verify your device password. Note that the device passcode or PIN code is not the same as your service password. It is used to lock the screen on your device after some minutes of inactivity. The strength of the password varies depending on how your company has setup mobile device policies.
  4. If your administrator has configured HCL Verse to enforce a device password, you may be prompted to provide and verify a device screen lock password. Note that the device passcode or PIN code is not the same as your HCL Verse login password. It is used to lock the screen on your device after a specific amount of inactivity. The strength of the password varies depending on how your company configures mobile device policies.
