Memory

Similar to CPU, it’s no longer interesting to discuss memory speed as most memory is now capable of transfer rates of 2400MB per second or greater which is more than sufficient. Instead, it’s important to review the amount of available memory.

If using virtual hardware, it's important that the memory be dedicated to the Traveler environment and not shared with other VMs. The following table outlines the recommended memory configuration based on the number of expected devices.
Table 1. Memory recommendations for Traveler servers
Number of devices1 Traveler standalone server Traveler HA server
Less than 100 8 GB 4 GB
100 - 500 16 GB 8 GB
500 - 1000 NA2 8 GB
1000 - 2000 NA2 16 GB
Greater than 2000 NA2 24 CPUs

1To estimate number of devices, multiply 1.2 times the number of expected users.

2Running a Traveler standalone environment with more than 500 devices is not recommended.

The enterprise database the memory requirements are based on the total number of devices expected to be handled by the enterprise database server. Best practice is to have one enterprise database server per Traveler HA environment. However, an enterprise database server can host more than one Traveler HA environment as long as you consider the total number of devices when planning for capacity.

Table 2. Memory recommendations for enterprise database servers
Number of devices1 Enterprise database server
Less than 2000 8 GB
2000 - 5000 12 GB
5000 - 10,000 16 GB
10,000 - 15,000 24 GB

1To estimate number of devices, multiply 1.2 times the number of expected users.
