How is IBM Traveler for Blackberry 10 devices unique?
BlackBerry 10 devices operate in several different ways from other supported platforms on IBM Traveler.
BlackBerry Balance technology is designed to separate and secure work and personal information on BlackBerry devices. BlackBerry Balance security features work in conjunction with device registration to a BlackBery Device Service capability in Blackberry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10). This enables your company to secure work information on employee-owned devices. BlackBerry Balance technology enables you to remotely wipe all device information or only work information on BlackBerry devices. If an employee using a personally-owned BlackBerry device for work purposes leaves an organization, an administrator can remotely wipe business information from the device, leaving separate personal information such as your non-work photographs, music, and other personal files intact.
- BlackBerry 10 Connect to IBM Traveler using BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10
- BlackBerry 10 Direct Connect to IBM Traveler
In either case, there is no client software required.
Supported applications on a BlackBerry 10 device connect to IBM Traveler using the Exchange ActiveSync protocol. Although there is no client software to install, an account must be created on your device for mail, calendar, and contacts before you can connect to the IBM Traveler server. The steps to accomplish this are different for the two distinct types of connection (chosen by your company), and are described separately.
- Support for corporate directory name look up
- You can search your corporate directory directly from your device. After typing the first few characters of a name or mail address for a message, the IBM Traveler server searches for a list of matching names and displays them on the device. You can also search for mail addresses and phone numbers of users in your contacts application on the BlackBerry 10 device.
- Embedded attachment support
- Rich text mail messages can display embedded images and attachments. For attachments larger than 1 MB, you must explicitly download the attachments from within the message.
- Mail folder syncing from server to device
- Inbox mail is pushed to devices automatically
- Other folders sync on devices when opened
- Ability to push selected mail folders to BlackBerry 10 devices
- Creating, renaming, moving, and deleting folders on a Blackberry 10 device
- Rich HTML content
- Syncing of read/unread status
- Moving mail to and deleting mail from folders
- Marking an email for follow-up or as unread from the device
Calendar support includes full support of recurring events, including IBM Notes custom repeating events.
Contacts support includes syncing of all Domino contact fields, including the photo field.
IBM Traveler does not support syncing of the Tasks and Memos applications to BlackBerry 10 devices.
