SafeLinx Clients can establish virtual private network (VPN) connections with mobile access services across various wireless and wireline network. SafeLinx Clients use these optimized, secure IP tunnels to communicate with resources on the internal network.

Install the SafeLinx Client on a Windows system.
Installing a modem driver
When you use the Create Connection wizard to configure connections that use modems, the wizard presents a list of installed modems. Choose a modem from this list for the connection. Therefore, any modem you want to use to create a SafeLinx Client connection must be installed under Windows.
Installing a modem driver provided by Windows
You do not have to have a modem driver provided by a modem manufacturer. If one of the modem drivers provided by Windows suits your needs, use the driver provided by Windows and follow the Windows modem installation instructions.

    To get started with the SafeLinx Client, review the software and hardware requirements, and then read the instructions on how to install the client.
    - Before upgrading the operating system
      When upgrading Windows operating system, first remove the SafeLinx Client. Then, upgrade the operating system and install the SafeLinx Client. When upgrading to the latest version of the SafeLinx Client, existing connections are preserved.

      On Windows platforms, you can choose a typical or custom installation for the SafeLinx Client.

      - Installing a modem driver

        Installing a modem driver provided by SafeLinx Client
        You do not need to have a modem diskette from a modem manufacturer. In some cases, a modem manufacturer and model is not listed under the Windows modem installation panel. You can install a modem driver provided with the SafeLinx Client.
    - Running a preconfigured installation
      A preconfigured installation creates client connections for the user and sets up the appropriate SafeLinx Client configuration settings in advance. This feature is important especially if some SafeLinx Client configuration parameters need to be set to values other than the defaults.
    - Running a silent installation
      The SafeLinx Client for Windows is packaged as an installation program and a basic MSI setup package named Windows_Client_<version>.exe. The package can accept a number of command-line parameters to control the installation.
  - Using the SafeLinx Client on Windows
    This section describes the use of the SafeLinx Client on Windows.
  - Configuring clients with a configuration file
    The artour.ini file contains configuration information about your client and each connection you define. This file is modified when you create connections or modify their properties. It controls which fields and buttons are presented on the Connect window for each connection.

Do not install a standard Windows 9600 bps modem until after you install one of the modems listed in Installing a modem driver. This list is provided by SafeLinx Client.
