Types of data loss
The first step in planning a recovery strategy is to determine how much data loss, if any, is acceptable.
The following types of data loss can occur:
- Deletion of the following:
- Rows, columns, tables, or databases
- Chunks, storage spaces, or logical logs
- Data corruption or incorrect data created
- Hardware failure (such as a disk that contains chunk files fails or a backup tape that wears out)
- Database server failure
- Natural disaster
