How do I set up integrated web chat or change chat settings?
The default HCL Sametime chat experience in Notes is the rich client chat experience in the Sametime side panel. If you want, you can change your chat preference to the Sametime integrated web-chat window, which includes support for read–receipt, chat reactions, and search in chat.
About this task
Note: If your Administrator chose to enable the web chat window as
the default experience, you will see that window instead of the rich client chat.
(Administrators change the default by pushing a notes.ini setting through desktop
policy via managed settings. The setting for web chat is
com.ibm.collaboration.realtime.ui/enableEmbeddedWebClient = true. It gets stored in
plugin_customization.ini.)
Procedure
- In the right sidebar, Sametime Contacts panel, enter the name of your community server, your user name, and your password.
- Log in to the Sametime server. The rich client chat experience will be displayed in the side panel.

If you want to switch to the integrated chat-window in the Sametime panel,
click File > Preferences > Sametime > Chat Window and Transcript
(Macintosh OS X users: click Sametime > Chat Window and Transcript) and select the
Integrated web-chat window option. The next time you
open Notes, the integrated web-chat window opens automatically.
Tip: If you happen to close the web-chat window, click the chat or contacts in the side panel to open it.
