Understanding the Multilingual User Interface (MUI) packs (Windows)
When you install Notes® on Microsoft™ Windows™, language kits are available for your use.
These kits are referred to as Multilingual User Interface (MUI) packs. The MUI packs are provided in install media specific to the language set you require. Install and usage instructions accompany the individual MUI packs in the form of a readme file.
A MUI pack adds Notes® language files to your existing Notes® installation to enable a multilingual Notes® user interface (Add Mode). It can also add Notes® language files and replace your local template and help files with new language versions (Replace Mode).
- Install considerations and instructions are provided in a readme file with each MUI pack install kit.
- You must be logged in as an administrative user to run the MUI pack installer.
- The installed Notes® version and the MUI pack version must match.
- The MUI pack will be disabled when the Notes® client is upgrade; the MUI pack version and Notes® version must match.
- When switching languages using the Interface Language user preference, the change of language applies only to the Notes® interface code (after a reboot), not the templates.
- In a multi-user Notes® client type, localized templates are installed for each language selected.
- The MUI pack groups Notes® languages. If you can assume some of the languages are never installed, a Dynamic CAB configuration is available. This reduces the file size of the MUI pack by allowing you to remove the unused languages. See the MUI pack install kit for details.
- The Notes® language version is available for German, French, and Japanese only. Other language users who use Notes® as a single user installation must use MUI Pack (Replace Mode) to install the desired Notes® client language pack. For the Notes® basic edition, all pre-Notes 8 languages remain available.
- The Domino® Administrator
client is translated for six languages only, specifically French,
German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.
If you want to install a language or languages other than these six,
you cannot install the Domino® Administrator
with an English language kit. See the following examples for further
detail:
- Install Notes® and the Domino® Administrator client using the Notes® English install media kit and then install French and German language files using a MUI pack.
- Install Notes® and the Domino® Administrator client using the Notes® English install media kit and then install then install French and Italian language files using a MUI pack. An error message appears on the custom setup dialog because Italian is not a supported language for the Domino® Administrator client. You are prompted to reselect the languages to install. Instead, install Notes® and the Domino® Designer client using the Notes® English install media kit and then install then install French and Italian language files using a MUI pack.
